RB Brandon "Zoom" Saine (official thread)

From the Ozone 8-8-07

The conjecture is that the Buckeyes will be a more ground oriented team offensively this year to take advantage of the talents of tailback Chris Wells as well as Maurice Wells and freshman Brandon Saine. On Monday, however, Tressel also indicated that he does not want to see a one-dimensional team or a team that is overly predictable.
"We want to be balanced." he said, "and we don't want to put our quarterback in positions where the only time he throws it is on third and eight. That wouldn't be fair to our quarterbacks. We want to be able to throw on first down and do a variety of things."

Let's hope they mix it up. I hate one dimensional football.

Hmmm! If we were to run a wishbone with Beanie and Saine, who could we use for a running QB?
Have heard Boeckman is pretty fast.........:tongue2:

Wishbone with Whaley at FB with Beanie and Brandon at TB. Woody'd be spinning in his grave...until the first 80-yard 12-play all-run TD drive under that formation.

A 270 lbs FB, 240 lbs RB, and a 215 lbs RB in the game at the same time? The defense would be shivering in their cleats at the site of that not to mention seeing beasts like Barton, Boone, and Rehring staring them down. I like the way you think, Mili.

This just made me really, really happy. Run that backfield to the left all day long...

I think this was one of the lessons learned in the game last year. We were one dimensional before the half and then one dimensional after the half.

ok forget that but I just can't wait till we get to see this duo tearing up the field!

Spread offence or Power I

I'd say JT isn't really saying what he will run, this is tipping his offensive hand. If I were a coach I wouldn't tell the world what the offense is going to look like, that would spoil the surprise. We may want to keep a few secrets before 9/1/07.

From the Columbus Dispatch today:

The Columbus Dispatch : College football: Spread option remains in vogue

"Penn State, Texas, West Virginia, Ohio State, they all run a spread offense," Meyer said. "Ohio State, you can call it whatever you want to call it, but that's a spread offense.

OR WILL WE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR RUNNING BACKS AND CHANGE THE FORMATION JUST TO THROW GUYS LIKE URBAN OFF?

And Ohio State, which ran the spread option with the best of them the past couple of years behind Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith, is grooming a new quarterback, which means it might lean on running back Chris "Beanie" Wells.
"If he gains 6 yards on a play, will we come back to him? Of course," coach Jim Tressel said. "But we're going to be, I hope, a balanced team. I think it is unfair to the quarterback to only have him called upon (to throw) when it's third and eight."
In other words, the spread's not dead at Ohio State.

Dominate people with Wells to the left in NCAA 08

I hope this was sarcastic Taos.. If we were looking for a mobile QB theres a pretty quick RS Freshman on the sidelines.. but Boeckman will be the man this year.. and next, or so it looks.

Brandon spent time in two back sets with Beanie, so your prediction may come true sooner than later.
best news i've heard yet this offseason

Saine's speed has heads turning, shaking
Friday, August 10, 2007
Doug Lesmerises
Plain Dealer Reporter

When the players ran for coaches for the first time Monday morning, it showed.

"Brandon Saine, it was kind of a jog in the park," coach Jim Tressel said. "He runs with the Lions, which is what we call the middle group, and he's faster than all the Cheetahs [the receivers and defensive backs]. He was just so smooth."

Told of Tressel's praise, Saine laughed and said, "It was little harder than he made it seem."

"He could run 4.4 all day," Reynolds said. "That's elite. That's elite. Nobody's done 4.2 yet, but we're coming."

"It's not a track meet," said running backs coach Dick Tressel. "But the way you see [Saine's] sprinter speed on the field is he's going faster than the other guys."

"I can catch the ball pretty well, but I don't really know where I fit in at this point," Saine said. "I'm just trying to work my way in on special teams."

His understated reputation preceded him, but Saine's attitude has made a mark with the coaches already.

"Brandon's very mature," Dick Tressel said. "He's calm, he's patient."
