Piqua pushes Troy around with passing game

Justin Hemm throws for four TDs as Indians take advantage of Troy's focus on Ohio State recruit Brandon Saine.

PIQUA ? The Piqua Indians' dream scenario proved to be the Troy Trojans' worst nightmare.
With Troy's defense focusing on running back Brandon Saine, the Indians instead passed by them Friday night. Again. And again. And again.

Piqua quarterback Justin Hemm threw four touchdowns for a 42-7 win in one of Ohio's most storied rivalries. The Indians won for the second straight season (and sixth time in eight tries) to take a 59-57-6 lead in front of about 10,000 spectators at Alexander Stadium.

"The dream game plan is to get a couple touchdowns ahead and not let them grind it out on you," said Piqua coach Bill Nees. "A close game with (Troy's) offensive line is not going to be in our favor."
With a diverse offense and hard-hitting defense, Piqua (8-1, 4-0 Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division) put the game away with 3:50 left before the half. Leading 14-7 and facing fourth-and-18 on Troy's 18, Hemm hit David Rolf down the middle for the score. If that didn't do it, Rolf's interception just two plays later did. Hemm needed one play to find Rolf down the middle again for a 28-7 lead.
"When you're down that far, we just don't have the weapons," Troy coach Steve Nolan said. "They're nice kids, but we don't have the weapons."
Piqua's defense packed the line to hold Troy (5-4, 2-3) to 145 yards rushing and 180 yards of total offense. The Indians picked up 200 on the ground ? including 111 from Saine ? and Hemm threw for 198. Hemm completed 7-of-10 passes and had TD strikes of 69, 18, 41 and 31 yards. On his first attempt, he hit Phil Collier about 15 yards downfield after the defender slipped for the 69-yarder.
The 42 points are the most Piqua has scored on Troy since putting up 61 in 1917.

i watched the game on ONN. Saine didn't play in the 4th, and had only 2 carries in the first quarter.

Really, about 75% of his carries came on one series where piqua was up by 21 and they were running down the clock in the 2nd half.

For three quarters it was a defensive slugfest. Northmont corralled quicksilver Brandon Saine, limiting him to 27 yards on 11 carries. He warmed up in the second half and finished with an unofficial 118 carries on 21 attempts.

Yes Brandon holds the record for the fastest 100m run by an Ohio HS track athlete at 10.38 (shattering the old record of 10.51 held by three individuals).

Teddy didn't run the 100m regularly in HS. He was the State champ at the 110M hurdles with a time of 13.40. He also set the State meet record with a 13.26 wind assisted prelim.

He also finished 2nd in the 400m with a 46.88. That is the same time that Brandon ran when he won the 400m this past year.

Im not a big track guy, but I did keep up with Ginn as I am keeping up with Saine. If I recall, I don't think that Ginn was great in the 100 m, he was good but not great, his event I believe was the 110 m hurdles.

That would still be one of the fastest 100s ever run in the State.

Ginn was GREAT in every race he ran in HS. He only ran the 100m a few times a year because the 110 hurdles and the 100m dash are back-to-back events.

And to stay on topic... Saine's fast

I believe Brandon ended the regular season with about 1,600 rushing yards and 28 TDs (24 rush) for the 8-2 Piqua Indians.

I don't know how many recieving yards he has.
