Brandon Saine, one of the fastest high-school sprinters in Ohio, has decided to play football at Ohio State.
The Piqua running back and track standout yesterday committed to sign a national letter of intent with the Buckeyes in February. He also had been sought by Michigan and Notre Dame.
"I picked Ohio State because it’s my favorite school," Saine said. "I like the coaches a lot, and it’s close to home. It has everything I’m looking for."
Last season he ran for 1,313 yards, with 10 of his 21 touchdowns coming in the last two games. Bill Kurelic rated him the No. 3 prospect in the state for 2007 in the May issue of Ohio Football Recruiting News.
"He is the fastest kid in the state of Ohio," Piqua athletics director David Palmer said . "But there is a lot more to him than just speed. He has a great personality, he’s humble, and he’s an excellent student."
Saine is the defending Division I champion in the 100 meters and the 400. On Friday, he ran the 100 in 10.34 seconds at the Wayne Invitational in Huber Heights, near Dayton, and the 200 in a state-best 21.15. He also is the fastest in the state in the 400 (46.80).
Saine is the second member of the Ohio State 2007 recruiting class, joining Nate Oliver, a defensive back from Lakewood St. Edward, who committed on national signing day in February. Oliver is ranked No. 2 in the state by Ohio Football Recruiting News.
