Terrelle Pryor hands off to Brandon Saine, left, who had 103 yards and two TDs against Marshall.

Coach Jim Tressel maintains that Ohio State is keeping a posse approach at running back, but Brandon Saine is looking more and more like the man on the lead horse.

From spectacular catches and leaping plays in the Rose Bowl to a 103-yard, two-touchdown performance last week against Marshall, Saine isn't merely toting the ball anymore. He is putting on a show, one he hopes to keep playing right on through a game Saturday against No. 12 University of Miami.

"You just get out there, and it's like you're a different person on the field," Saine said. "You just do what you do and have fun. I have been playing football for so long, what happens comes naturally."

But the kinds of aerial tricks he displayed in the Rose Bowl had rarely been seen from him. Nagging injuries his first two seasons at Ohio State stunted his development.

Though he usually kept his feet on the ground against Marshall, he showed patience as he sought holes and then a burst when he found them, using the sprinter's speed that let him rule high school track meets at Piqua.

Instead of taking a handoff or pitch and putting his head down and running, he's creating things on the fly.

"That really just came with the confidence gained throughout the past year, realizing that I'm playing football, and it's the same game (as high school), though the guys might be faster," Saine said. "It's just realizing that if you go out there and have fun, the big plays will come."

after watching that spectacular catch by saine today and his receptions throughout his career does anyone else think his best chance of playing at the next level would be as a wide receiver?

i may get ridiculed for this but the way he made that catch in today's game reminded me of michael floyd?

He certainly has the hands but the routes he runs out of the backfield are pretty different from the ones a WR runs.

His hands (and pass protecting) will warrent him a roster spot on alot of teams as a 3rd down back in the near future.
