Rashard Lawrence (DT Arizona Cardinals)

Not nearly ready to call him to OSU but normally I would have written a kid like this off months ago and yet OSU seems to be hanging around. I expect him to stay close to home but for some reason I can't write this kid off just yet...
Saw something about LSU getting a 3rd DT commit for this year... would that weigh in OSU's favor or logic doesn't really apply here?

I won't pretend to understand Rashard's recruitment well enough to say...only that I've heard countless times that he was always likely to stay close to home. But I'm sure the other staffs are at least pointing out that fact to him...

Rivals $ - Lawrence figuring out visit plans

11/2

By Howell...Says his Ohio State official was his best visit yet. Talks to Coach Johnson weekly & wants to return for another game.

If he visits again, on his own dime.....

BN$--Lawrence talks visits, coaches and more

Rashard says he may be finished with visits and decide in January. He is favoring Alabama, LSU, and tOSU.

As others have said, LSU does have a few high ranked DTs already. Who says we can't still land a massive stud like Lawrence?

It's not impossible to land a highly ranked guy from that far south, it's just not something you want to put all your eggs into one basket with because its unlikely.

When it does happen though, and especially at a position of need (like DT is this year),
Ohio State has had tremendous success with those guys that were bold enough to make that call. See 2015 All-Americans Raekwon McMillian and Vonn Bell.

It does seem when we do pluck a stud from the south, they excel here. I was thinking Cameron Heyward as well just on the DL, but that was farther back. And it looks like Hill might be pretty good too, saw some flashes from him.

"Best visit yet" could go along way, especially if it's his last visit. Plugged inside with Malik with Nick and Jonathan on the ends would be an absolutely amazing group of DLineman. Could you imagine what Larry Johnson could do with these guys?!!

Could be in the top 3 instant impact recruits Urban has ever landed if he can pull it off. By impact I mean an elite player filling in a huge position of need and logging minutes immediately.

In that sense, as potential only, it could be the second biggest impact recruit. You hear all the time about a player coming in and starting day one but this guy looks the type to actually do it and the depth chart is set to do it. He's got the frame already and you know Johnson would have him ready.

Bell, Zeke, Dontre, Jalin, Samuel, McMillian, none of those guys had that immediate impact. Bosa is probably the only recruit I can think of. Not saying Lawrence is a future All American top 5 draft guy but I certainly am saying that you look at depth chart and you can see him beating anyone out in front of him. To have that option on a team coached by Urban, Johnson, Fick, Schiano, etc has to be appealing.
