Sorry guys. Fickell doesn't have the requisite swagger.
I fugure you're joking, but I agree, he is not full of himself like JJ, Ericson or Butch was, and he does not have the fake swagger others had, but I think he could be like Schnellenberger (sp) and coach up all that talent into a cohesive, disciplined squad that would be hard to beat.

There are quite a few coaches that are waiting for that to happen. Some of them might be getting tired of waiting. I am thinking of Greg Schiano. He might not fit into the U's way of life.

Greg Schiano may have waited himself out of a lot of decent jobs for a long time. He's brough Rutgers a long way, but the last couple years, finishing in the middle to bottom of that weak-ass league isn't going to impress anybody.

This team has recruited too well to suck with a decent coach. With all the new coaches winning national championships (since 2000, all but one was with team 4 years or less) I'm curious to see how Miami and ND do in the next few years.

I guess I am in the minority, but I do not think that they have recruited as well as people think, at least as far as balance and need are concerned. The players that they did recruit were highly rated, to be sure - but when you have a real need in several areas, the fact that you scooped up five or six four star linebackers will not help you down the road if your need is - say - QB and offensive linemen (for example).

Randy Shannon emerging as strong DC candidate at Texas

With Texas coach Mack Brown suddenly in need of a defensive coordinator, it appears his search for a replacement could soon land Randy Shannon, recently fired as Miami's head coach after four seasons with the Hurricanes. Shannon appeared to be close to an agreement to become Kentucky's new DC, according to reports in that state, before taking his name out of the loop Saturday -- shortly after Muschamp was named as the new head football coach at Florida.

Shannon reportedly was high on Brown's list of DC candidates in 2007 before Shannon landed the head coaching gig at Miami. Brown wound up having Duane Akina call the defensive signals that year before hiring Muschamp in 2008.

By hiring Shannon, Texas would land a name-brand asset to help stem some of the negative momentum surrounding the program in the wake of a 5-7 season and the departure of Muschamp, who held the coach-in-waiting title before deciding he would rather coach the Gators than continue to wait on Brown to hand over the reins of the Texas program.

_ Jimmy Burch

Word is he will also be the new coach-in-waiting...

New coach-in-waiting? I mean, really? Texas is now picking up Miami's scraps. Now THAT is reason for ShaggyBevo to melt down. If he can't win with all the talent in South Florida or all the talent in Texas, Randy Shannon may be one of the worst head coaches...ever.

UT fans operate under the assumption that no matter how bad a person was at another place... once they are part of the longhorn family they are the best thing since sliced bread.

Big fan of Randy Shannon. Would be a great hire for Texas and I'd love to see him land firmly on two feet in a nice gig.

After reading some of those threads from Bevo (which are HIL-arioius), I think it'll calm a good deal of the chicken littles over there.

"Coach in waiting" really means nothing! They can kick him out if someone better becomes available. Tejas has the money.
But the bigger question is; How could anyone screw up one of the premier programs in college football?

There's a certain coach up North that would like to know the answer to that question.
