Now Al is conducting his legal defense in the press conference. Apparently, he thinks this exercise will change the perception that he's lost his mind, as if this is the first evidence of it. :shake:

Old Al actually sounds more lucid than I expected and if half of what he's saying is true Kiffin needs to grow up. Then again, you run that risk when you make a 31 year old guy head coach of an NFL franchise, which gets back to the core issue - 5 coaches in 6 years. That is all on Al Davis.

Sounding lucid doesn't mean he is, and all of this is from Al's POV, probably biased. Team culture and daily work environment Al is responsible for, 5 coaches in 6 years says enough for me. Raider fans generally say that Kiffin managed to motivate players to play, competitively again, (post randy Moss) and was making real progress on both sides of the ball. Significant accomplishment with most any team, let alone Al's...and at 31 years old.

This may be the best press conference I've ever seen.

Bad-mouthing the former coach as you boot his rear out the door!!! :slappy: :slappy:

Never seen anything like it.

Also, did anyone else feel like Al's eyeballs could have rolled out of his head on to the table at any moment?

Holy tear-ducts Batman!!!

I'm assuming you're referring to Syracuse?

No way. He'll have a better offer than that garbage program, although it is similar to the state of the Raiders when he took over.

He's got USC on his resume, he'll do better than the 'Cuse or the Big East.

There have been a lot of rumblings about JT getting some new support around him. I have mentioned Kiffen's name a lot, but I have a question that I posted at another site...

Doesn't JT call the plays for the O on Saturdays? Even if Bollman leaves our play calling would still stay the same no matter who you instert as O.C.

I'm not trying to be an idiot, but if anyone has more info I would love to hear it...and maybe I'm wrong, maybe Bollman is in control on Saturdays...???

I do think Kiffen would be a great pick up! The kid is a great recruiter ( I think he was listed as a top 25 recruiter when he was at USC ) He opens the doors to west coast recruits. The fact that he was an NFL head coach makes him even that much MORE of a recruiter... That would be scary given the fact that JT has no problem bringing in talent now.

Away from recruiting, the guy is a great coach and has the resume' to back it up. Not to knock Darrell Hazell, but he would be a HUGE upgrade as a WR coach!

Somewhere, Phillip Fullmer is eating to try and disguise his uneasiness with this situation.

And in response to the post above me, Bollman calls plays and JT approves them. I think. Kiffin could land a respectable coaching job. He probably doesn't want to downgrade from head coach of an NFL team, where he did a solid job considering circumstances, to OC of Ohio State. I'd love to see it, but he can get a better job. Tennessee is going to need a coach soon, Washington isn't that far removed from success, and I'm sure a job will arise when someone underachieves this year. South Carolina, maybe?

There will be coaching jobs available for Lane Kiffin.

I didn't mean to make it sound like Kiffen would come to OSU as a WR coach, but to take on that duty as well...

I just read a summary of the conference. Davis basically called Kiffin a liar, and said that he lied to the media about various things. Based on what Davis said, it sounds like Kiffin lied to the media because he didn't want his firing to be handled through the media. If he lied to the media about not signing his letter of resignation, does anyone really have a problem with that?

Davis basically said that he ignored Kiffin's requests not to draft Jamarcus Russell. Said something like "stop complaining and coach the team on the field." That is exactly why the Raiders will not win with Al Davis. Al Davis needs to not hire a head coach and declare himself the man for the position if he's doing that shit.

Alright, the Raider's suck. But am I wrong that they've had the lead in the fourth a couple times this year?

They've had the lead in the fourth quarter in 11 of the last 20 games or something crazy. If they had more offense, or a QB who could read defenses, they'd probably be a pretty solid team.

I've heard the Syracuse rumor. The connection being the 'cuse AD was the AD at USC when he was there. A ridiculous add-on to that rumor is that his dad would leave Tampa Bay and come coach the defense with him..

I don't really know how possible the first part of that is....but he just seems like a college guy. Mostly because he's thought of as a good recruiter.
