So, I smoked like 6 packs of cigs two weekends ago in Arizona. I came home and my throat hurt and I could barely speak. (I was drunk the whole 4 days) Anyways, I decided that it was time to quit. I'm 25 and have been smoking mostly when I drink (which could be up to 4 or 5 nights a week) since I was 19. Its been 11 days and I haven't even had 1. It sucks becuase I find myself wanting one after I get off work because I always used that as a reward for myself. I also struggle big time when I'm out drinking. Tonight I must have said to my friends 20 times how bad I wanted one. I am commited to quitting and I'm not afraid that I will fail, but that doesn't help with the cravings. I'm curious how long this will last. I'm sure it will always be in the back of my mind, but I want it to stop being the only thing I can think about.

I second Thump's encouragement. And if you mess up, don't give up. You will find something that works.

Look at Bill Clinton...you ever see him smoking after that lil cigar trick with Monica? See? There's a solution for everyone.

Well I've decided to give this another shot.

I started takinig Chantix last Friday. The website recommends that you continue to smoke for the first week that you are taking the medication and quit on the 8th day. I decided to take that a little bit further and slowly cut back. I smoked like I normally would on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Monday I had 13, which is less than what I would normally smoke. Tuesday I had 3 total... one at 8:30am, one at 11:30am, and one at 5:30pm.

I haven't had a single puff since Tuesday evening. I honestly think this is getting easier every day and the Chantix is what's making it easy. My cravings were much worse the last couple of times I tried to quit.

Awesome SIMV. Keep up the good work

And when you have it beat, we'll go get a few beers

I'm also in the process of quitting (have been for around 2 years LOL). I haven't had one for almost 2 weeks now cold turkey. Cravings aren't that bad... the only time I feel a strong temptation (which I usually give in to) is when I drink. Now if only I can avoid drinking, doesn't help being in college.

I haven't noticed any at all and I am actually pretty surprised by that to be honest.

By the way... still going strong. Tuesday at 5:30 was my last smoke!

Whatever you do, wait a while before you drink around people who smoke or bars. That's killed my last couple of quitting attempts.
