Hasn't the Church desired to have power over people just like a government?

There are questions that need asked.
But I'm just an American taliban or somethin'.
We should always trust the Church and big business and government. 'Cause they always have our interest at heart. :tongue2:

Umm... yeah... Taliban, Holy Roman Empire, Spanish Inquisition, blah, blah, blah.

No secret.

I apologize.
I was confused.
No you weren't. You saw a Christian topic and decided to get back on your soapbox about the Church
I thought this was a thread about the seeming disconnect between Christian morals and caring/helping those in need.
The topic was about political and sociological viewpoints and actions about how to reach out.

You're talking about an evil empire domineering over individuals.

This is directly rooted in the teachings of Jesus, which can be summed up with "love thy neighbor as thy self".

I do not have a problem with helping those less fortunate through the Church as demonstrated in the book of Acts and also as instructed to in the book of James.

[sarcasm]It's a good thing that those two things came into existence 2000 years ago.[/sarcasm]

I once read that most pastors believe the majority of their congregations are not truly believers saved by grace.

A topic for another time?

Interestingly, God pretty much says in the Bible He can provide for all needs if everyone gave 10%.

No, the Good Book doesn't.
