QB's and the race factor

Not the fact that the majority of college QBs are 6'3"+ ... :roll1:
50/50 for the top 20 QBs (pass efficiency in 06). Definitely enough to produce one early draft pick, if height wasn't a humongous roadblock.
You know what? You and Thump are 100% and I'm 100% wrong. There is absolutely no subtle racism whatsoever in the NFL or any other sport. Each athlete and coach is judged solely by his abilities and not at all by his ethnic background, which is precisely the reason why we have so many black head coaches and starting QBs, and white starting WRs and CBs.
:roll2:

I never said that racism did not exist. The fact is that the early rounds in the draft have an obvious height requirement, even if you have white skin. As such, I see Troy being underrated by scouts even if he were white.

You all but said so. Again, whether your naive mind chooses to believe it or not, it plays a factor.
naive, or unwilling to make an harsh conclusion that racism is to blame when his short, white-skinned brethren also get screwed by those same scouts?

edit: definitely hijacked this too much, my apologies.

Let me spell this out for you so you can understand. First, did I say it's "to blame"? No, rather it's a factor...an unfortunate one, but one nonetheless. Height could be a factor if all or most other factors were close. Which brings me to the second point:

Second, name one area--just one--where Zwick is equal to, let alone better than, Smith:

Accuracy: Nope.
Arm strength: Nope.
Speed: Nope.
Mobility: Nope.
Self-confidence: Nope.
Leadership: Nope.
On-field performance: Nope.
Teammate support: Nope.

Zwick is 5-4 as a starter...Smith is 13-2. Smith is 3-0 against Michigan and Notre Dame...Zwick hasn't taken a single snap against either. I can go on and on. There is absolutely no doubt--across the board--who is the clearly superior quarterback, and yet you insist on saying that Zwick's being 3 inches taller is the sole reason why scouts are looking more at Zwick.

I still have that bridge...

actually you made it crystal clear that you felt the "real issue" was "black and white".
If NFL scouts are thinking Zwick has more NFL potential than Smith, then they need to report for drug testing right now. I think the real issue isn't true potential, but rather the last three words in Dryden's quote...

sole reason? I also argued that you can scout Smith from your home, whereas Zwick is harder to gauge (awful supporting cast in early 04, marked improvement vs OkSU/Miami). A scout may be convinced Smith is a far better college QB but does not need to spend his limited time confirming that opinion. Also a specific scout may be looking for a backup pocket passer to fit in with their existing system.

Troy Smith at 6'1" is not "short",

Well, if you'd actually attended a game in person, you'd learn not to always believe what you read. He's not 6'1. I was at the Indiana game this year, pretty close to the field and there's no way Troy Smith is 6'1. I'd venture to say 5'11, 6'0 tops.

I agree that he's better than Zwick and can't figure out how Zwick is getting looks but like was mentioned earlier, I believe however it has to do with his height and not his skin color.

Do I think there is some racism still left in the league, yes, do I think that's the case here, "no."

there's a better angle of this group somewhere... but it shows that Troy is quite far removed from 6'5" robbie.

seems to be a little shorter than teddy in this pic:

So, you can guess a person's height down to the inch from hundreds of feet away. I'll make sure to take a tape measure to The Game this year... :roll1:

if he's within 30 rows of the bench, it's quite possible to see players & their heights.

Still think Smith is not short after seeing those pics? I love the guy and hope he gets the chance to prove them wrong... but he'll have his work cut out for him.

Well if you'd ever been to Indiana and sat in the endzone bleachers and can stand by the fence where the team goes into the lockerroom, you'd understand that I was about 10 feet away.

I guess 10 feet away isn't as good as 5000 miles away in deciding his height. :roll1:

Mili -- You're still taking this too far anyway. The article didn't say that the scouts were looking at Zwick over Smith. I think they were just trying to say that Zwick may be talented enough to get to the NFL. Noone is saying Zwick's a better quarterback.
