QB's and the race factor

Really, it wouldn't matter if Zwick was black, white, red, or freakin' purple, 6'4" QBs who complete 72% of their passes are going to get a look.

All any scout needs to see is that Alamo Bowl game. If the line can keep Zwick upright and he lands in the right system, he will be successful.

I think NFL scouts are simply looking at the measurables that made Zwick such a prized recruit coming in. That's the way it almost always goes. Thats why Ryan Leaf's get picked #2 overall and Tom Brady's fall to round six.
Leaf is 6'5", Brady is 6'4". Leaf had outstanding stats in college while Brady didn't...that's why Leaf got drafted so much higher, not the fact he was an inch taller.

72% in garbage time ain't the same as 72% in prime time.

EDIT: Poll...how long before this gets split off?

They aren't signing him to a 4 year multi million dollar deal, they're taking a look.

Um you're a moderator so couldn't you do it? I don't think I would like to bet against you.

like vince?

edit: 06 beat me to it.

The NFL doesn't like short QBs... regardless of skin color. Sorry if I don't naturally assume it's more than that without proof.
I remember checking in the past, and there are very few short QBs drafted early.not really... Vince was 6'5", Troy is probably close to 6'.

Still waiting to hear about these short white QBs who are not overlooked due to their skin color.

Agree with Winslow, Mili can't seem to get over the race stuff for some reason.

It's because one's short and a scrambler and one is a prototypical, tall, drop-back, pocket passer.

I see that you're still ignorant. If you think that more than a few scouts in the NFL still don't consciously or subconsciously prejudge black QBs, then I'd like to sell you the California-Hawaii Transpacific Bridge. Nice try in your sad attempt to make it sound like I support the practice.

Troy Smith at 6'1" is not "short", and "scrambling" itself isn't always a deterrent (see Fran Tarkenton, Steve Young, Mark Brunell, etc., all of whom co-incidentally were white...oops, sorry, Anglo-American :roll1:). Troy went a long way last season is showing he's no longer a run-first QB, and that he can stand in the pocket and scan the field with the best of them, and hopefully he continues that development. He is superior to Zwick in every facet of the game, so I simply don't understand why any scout would pay more attention to Zwick than Smith...and I've consistently been one of the biggest Zwick supporters on this board.

mili, 6' (+1", maybe) is definitely "short" and a drawback for NFL scouts. The first day draft results back me up.

Not the fact that the majority of college QBs are 6'3"+ ... :roll1:

You know what? You and Thump are 100% and I'm 100% wrong. There is absolutely no subtle racism whatsoever in the NFL or any other sport. Each athlete and coach is judged solely by his abilities and not at all by his ethnic background, which is precisely the reason why we have so many black head coaches and starting QBs, and white starting WRs and CBs.
