QB1 Julian Sayin (All B1G, B1G Frosh of Year, All American, National Frosh of Year, National Champion)

Passing yards and accuracy are great.

It’s the desire to pick up yards with his feet the last 2 weeks that impresses me - I don’t care if it’s 10 yards or 1 yard.

I think each of those carries has a huge weight with the team. Beyond any first down.

He’s starting to make “winning” plays.

But now he's running too much instead of passing to the freshman WRs, and they're all going to transfer!!! - A real opinion of a few fans who are also furious OSU isn't running a two minute drill for the entire game.

I have Sayin at 23-27, 312 yds, 4 TDs + 3 rushes for 18 yards and another TD. In less than 5 minutes of game time.

Those are stupid numbers.

Pulling these numbers over from the offense thread. His play in the last 2 minutes of each first half has been nearly flawless.

Sayin will set a lot of records here too if he comes back next year, which right now seems like it's at least 50/50 he does

I don't think he's quite ready (he's getting there though), and honestly, i wonder how his arm strength is gonna effect how the league views him. He's progressing so well, just intrigued to see how much weight that's gonna carry.

Getting Sayin for another year would be HUGE with the impending loss of JJ. When's the last time we had a 3 year starter at QB? JTB?

I think it make sense for him to come back. His physical traits are what they are, they aren't going to get better. So he obviously is going to have to depend on experience, intelligence, processing etc. I think it would help him getting as much experience as possible before he goes into the league. Look at Purdy, who is his most obvious comparison, he threw almost 1500 passes at Iowa State. I think that helped him. Not to mention, this is a pretty loaded QB class and he's not going to be one of the top guys picked, so there's a good chance he'd make more money staying another year anyway.

Julian’s numbers the last 2 years have been amazing. He’s one of the most accurate QBs not only in OSU history, but all of college football. He should be garnering more heisman attention, but Smith has stolen the show and will continue to do so for the remainder of the year. Not Julian’s fault his WR1 is one of the best in the history of cfb, and unfairly he will always get the counter-argument of “what if he didn’t have Smith?”

Julian to CHJ, Brock, and McCuin next year will go crazy. I’m hoping if he returns it doesn’t deflect future QB recruits like Brady Edmunds in the age of ‘early start-or-transfer’.

SAYIN STEPS UP

Julian Sayin used his arm and his legs for the second straight week and Ohio State's offense felt the boost from it once again as the signal caller went off.

In his 9th-career 300-yard passing game, Sayin completed 20-of-27 throws (a few drops in there) for 324 yards and three scores. He also showed impressive mobility in the pocket as he was frequently under duress. When he wasn't buying time to throw, Sayin recorded four different runs of at least five yards. Many of those kept OSU's offense on schedule even as passing plays broke down.

All of this was on display as Ohio State's offense trotted on the field nursing a 10-6 with 1:48 left in the second quarter. Sayin engineered a statement 9-play, 84-yard touchdown drive completing 3-of-4 passes for 38 yards and a touchdown but even more important, he recorded a nifty 7-yard scramble on 1st-and-10 and on the following snap, he audibled at the line to what became a 16-yard Bo Jackson run to the Iowa 18. Two plays later, he found Jeremiah underneath and 4 did the rest as he stretched the ball just over the goal line giving OSU a 17-6 lead with a mere 12 ticks left in the half. (Pretty sure Ohio State's offense has scored a touchdown with under 30 seconds in the first half in each game so far this season.)

Iowa fans felt like they were firmly in the game before that drive but knowing OSU was also set to receive the ball to start the second half, you could hear a bit of the air leave Kinnick. The Buckeyes wouldn't score on their first two possessions of the second half but on the third, still leading 17-6, Sayin took a 2nd-and-5 snap and immediately felt pressure up the gut. Instead of ducking for a sack, he calmly sidestepped the free rusher and fired a strike to Jeremiah for the 57-yard score and a 24-6 lead with 6:11 left in the third quarter.

Everyone will remember that play as Jeremiah's record breaking touchdown, and rightfully so, but it also captured how far Sayin has come with pocket presence and footwork. Couple that with the added muscle gained in the offseason and his effective if not pretty scrambles the last few weeks and his game is rounding into form just in time for stiffer tests ahead.

I feel like the play against Illinois, where he broke 2 tackles and ran for the first down, was the turning point of his career. He has had as good or better accuracy than any tOSU QB I can remember, but trusting his legs to get a big first down rather than punting and living to fight another series will be huge for this team. We needed to see the fire of, I"m going to put this team on my back and keep this series going, and we have seen that over the past 2 weeks.
