QB1 Julian Sayin (All B1G, B1G Frosh of Year, All American, National Frosh of Year, National Champion)

Ryan Day says just what Ohio State football fans needed to hear about QB Julian Sayin before the 2026 season

Julian Sayin returns as the starter in 2026 for Ohio State where he needs to take a step. Ryan Day’s comments should make Buckeye Nation feel good about that happening.

Day highlights Sayin’s growth this offseason

Sayin’s first season as Ohio State’s starter was strong until the moments that mattered most. The Buckeyes went 12-0 in his first 12 starts before dropping games against Indiana and Miami in the Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff. Sayin didn’t play his best when the lights were brightest, and that left a sour taste heading into the offseason.

Day’s comments Wednesday suggest the quarterback has put in the work to change that narrative.

“When you look in his eye, you see a different person, you see a different body. He’s worked hard, he’s gotten stronger, he’s found his voice even more,” Day said.

Some very bad ones too though like thinking Nico at UCLA and Josh Hoover (a turnover machine) should be ranked ahead of Sayin
I didn't pay much attention to Hoover, but I did watch a bit more of Nico. To be fair, Max did say it was difficult to evaluate Sayin.

It almost feels like Julian is that rich kid who has everything at his disposal and was only asked not to screw up. I think he did a great job with that.

Players like Nico were kinda like Dennis Rodman, who was knocked down so many times and had to rise up and try something different.

Will Howard wasn't that impressive at KSU and turned into a very good one at tOSU. Check out how many 1st downs he got for the team in the NC game. The question for Julian, which is a fair one to me, is whether he will, not can, carry the team to victory when they are in tough situations like Mendoza did last season. I have no doubt he has that ability, and I just need to see it on the field. This schedule is set up perfectly for it.

That is definitely a fair question. I just have to laugh when someone says they can't put Sayin ahead of a guy who turned the ball over 42 times in 31starts at TCU (Hoover)

What I saw at B10 meeting from Sayin was positive. He handled everything (my limited sample) pretty well. Granted, many of the questions were softballs, but his demeanor was calm, seemed reasoned, and confident. Sometimes think he gets downplayed because he looks 14, so if he grew out his facial hair, he'd be more highly ranked. Dunno. He played well last year, and his physique has gotten noticeably better. Also believe (hope?) that he's going to be given a greener light to use his feet more, as TSC appears to be getting better, ergo a more reliable substitute if Saying gets his bells rung on a run or two. Last year, TSC wasn't as able, so Day put clamps on, w/o a back-up. Plus, you cannot discount his increased experience, and one learns more from losses than wins. Go Bucks!
