Gee is 'happy for Terrelle'

"After all said and done, he is and will always be a Buckeye," Gee said.

Former OSU quarterback Terrelle Pryor departed the university on June 7 to pursue an NFL career. Pryor was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the supplemental draft.
"I was happy for Terrelle," Gee said.

Pryor, who was at the root of many of the issues that led to former head coach Jim Tressel's forced resignation, would have been suspended for five games at OSU if he had returned for his senior season.

"He had some serious issues that he had to deal with here, we had some issues we had to deal with him," Gee said of Pryor.

Per NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's decision, Pryor was suspended for the first five games of this year's NFL season.

"As with any student at this university, two things, one is I wish him well," Gee said. "Second of all, I sent him a note, a couple times now telling him that I expect him to come back and get his degree, and that seems in the end to be the best advice I can give him."

Raiders coach: Pryor 'working hard'

The wait is almost over for Oakland Raiders rookie quarterback Terrelle Pryor.

Suspended for the first five contests of the NFL season, Pryor will be cleared to begin practicing with his teammates and potentially play after Oakland?s game Sunday at Houston.

?He?s working hard,? Raiders head coach Hue Jackson told me and co-host Jim Miller on Sirius XM NFL Radio. ?He?s learning the system because he can be in meetings. He can see. He can listen. He just can?t practice.

?He?s been taking that information and trying to do everything he can to be the best he can be. I think he?s looking forward to having the opportunity to be out here and working with his teammates.?

Last Friday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell upheld an appeal of Pryor?s five-game suspension for what the league has described as ?manipulating the draft process.? Pryor, who was facing a minimum five-game suspension at Ohio State for the 2011 college season, announced his plans to turn pro in June but needed to hire an attorney to wrangle with NFL officials for entry into the supplemental draft.

The Raiders chose Pryor in the third round when the draft finally was held in late August (Oakland will forfeit a corresponding pick in April?s college draft). Pryor didn?t appear in a preseason game but has impressed Jackson with how he has carried himself inside team headquarters.

?We keep the line of communication open,? Jackson said. ?He is a very forthcoming young man. If there?s something on his mind he?ll let you know, which I really respect and appreciate. We talk every day. I see him in meetings and he?s very attentive. That?s a great start for him. Now once the real football starts for him pretty soon, we?ll see exactly where he is.?

Terrelle Pryor set to join Raiders

The suspension of Oakland rookie quarterback Terrelle Pryor is over.

The Raiders are expected to activate him to the 53-man roster this week. Usually, in cases of suspensions, the player can practice during the week and the team isn?t forced to make a corresponding roster move until the end of the week. That should be the case here.

Pryor was suspended by the NFL for five games as part of his allowance into the supplemental draft this summer after a sticky conclusion to his career at Ohio State. The Raiders took Pryor in the third round of the supplemental draft. Pryor appealed the suspension but it was not overturned. Pryor was with the team toward the end of the preseason. He did not play in the preseason. He was allowed to work at the facility, to study the Raiders' playbook and to meet with coaches during the suspension. He was not allowed to play or practice.

The Raiders were resigned to the fact that Pryor would miss a chunk of his rookie season. Now that Pryor is now going to be part of the Raiders? active roster, don?t expect to see him on the field soon. He is a project, who has had limited practices with the Raiders. The team will likely make him the No. 3 quarterback behind Jason Campbell and Kyle Boller and allow him to learn the system.

I could see Pryor being worked into some packages late in the season if the timing is right. But for the most part, Pryor is a work in progress who is now finally able to be part of the Oakland organization.

PITTSBURGH (SPORTSRADIO 93-7 THE FAN) ? Raiders quarterback and Jeannette native, Terrelle Pryor joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller to talk about his five-game suspension ending, what the Raiders plans are for him, and his relationship with Al Davis.

There was much speculation about what position Pryor would be playing in the NFL before the supplemental draft, and he told us he is very confident he?ll not only be an NFL QB, he?ll be an effective one.

Pryor also talked about watching Ohio State play on the weekends right now, and how it saddens him to watch a team that he should be playing for right now.

We wrapped things up with Terrelle having him tell us about his relationship with Al Davis, and what kind of effect the late Raiders owner had on him in just a short period of time.

Raiders notes: QB Pryor could suit up Sunday

ALAMEDA – Terrelle Pryor never met Raiders owner Al Davis. But before his death last week, Davis passed along a message to the rookie quarterback in telephone calls – work hard and win.

Pryor practiced with the Raiders this week after being suspended for the first five weeks of the season by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for manipulating the rules to become eligible for the NFL supplemental draft.

The Raiders have not said if Pryor will suit up for the first time Sunday against the visiting Cleveland Browns. Oakland used a third-round pick in next year's draft to select Pryor, a star for three seasons at Ohio State.

Pryor said he last spoke with Davis about two weeks ago.

"(Davis) just said, 'Wait your turn,' " Pryor said. "And he said, 'Just win, baby.'

"He said that quite a few times. So just from talking to him, I just got how passionate he is about football, how passionate you need to be to be successful."

Pryor was allowed to attend team meetings but not to practice with the Raiders during his suspension.

On his own time, Pryor worked to master the language of the playbook and improve his footwork and mechanics.

Pryor hasn't been shy about speaking up in meetings and offering suggestions to other veteran passers, Raiders starting quarterback Jason Campbell said.

"He'll write it on the board – 'I think we should do this on this play,' " Campbell said. "So I said, 'What are you, our consultant now?' "

Pryor is the third-string quarterback behind Campbell and Kyle Boller.

Pryor feels at ease in quarterback meetings, which also include offensive coordinator Al Saunders.

"If I wasn't very comfortable in talking about what I thought, or knew, I wouldn't say it," Pryor said. "But I feel like I'm confident and comfortable with it, (that) I can just spit it out and say what I feel. And they respect me for that."

Q and A with Terrelle Pryor

The Raiders rookie quarterback met with local reporters Friday for the first time since returning to practice this week from his five-week suspension.

Q: Thoughts on joining team?
A: It?s all a new process for me, really. Trying to get used to the speed and stuff like that and the plays called and just getting used to being with my teammates again.

Q: Feel good to be on the field again?
A: Yeah, without a doubt, I get to do the thing that I love and go out there with my teammates and contribute and practice and help as much as I can. And however I can get involved, I?m back at it from that standpoint. I enjoy that kind of thing and I enjoy playing the game that I love so getting back out there is a big blessing.

Q: What did you get accomplished in your five weeks working out on your own?
A: Coach wanted me to do the drops the way he wanted, so I got that done. I was training by myself; I had a personal quarterback trainer for five weeks. And I really wanted to get the verbiage down a little more and I?m getting a lot better at it. Pretty much, that?s it, and getting the plays, obviously, just keep studying the plays. So I was getting the plays down and also doing footwork and mechanics-stuff as well. Doing the verbiage and calling the plays out, that was quite different too.

Q: Is it easier for you knowing that Hue Jackson has said you?re a quarterback and not have to worry about any other positions?
A: I mean, I knew what I was going to be. I mean, that?s for people that go around, I guess, thinking that they know what they?re talking about. But it is what it is. I knew what i was going to be. I?m just trying to get it down so if something were to happen, I could help my team continue on the path they?re at.

Q: Jason Campbell said you?re quiet but you speak out at meetings. How comfortable are you in speaking out and being part of the team?
A: I?m comfortable. Guys are pretty welcoming here. We have a lot of fun here. As you see, I know you guys are always in the locker room hearing guys always joking and stuff like that, and I?m a very friendly guy so I can get involved with my teammates and have them like me because that?s just the way I am and, I don?t know, I just like to fit in as well as I can and they made it pretty easy for me so, to answer your question, when I?m in there with Jason and Kyle (Boller) and Coach (Al) Saunders, I?m pretty comfortable because I feel like I know what I?m talking about. If I wasn?t very comfortable in talking about what I thought, or knew, I wouldn?t say it. But I feel like I?m confident and comfortable with it to feel like I can just spit it out and say what I feel. And they respect me for that.

Q: What did your conversations with Al Davis these past five weeks mean to you as you were waiting to get back on the field?
A: He pretty much, just with how passionate he was about the game, he just kept on telling me, Just win. And then the last time I talked to him, maybe like two weeks ago, maybe a little longer, maybe two-and-a-half weeks ago, he just said, ?Wait your turn.? And he said, ?Just win, baby.? He said that quite a few times. So just from talking to him, I just got how passionate and it just re-emphasizes just how passionate he is about football. How passionate you need to be to be successful. I feel like I learned that and I picked that up from him.

Q: Those talks were over the phone?
A: He would always call me on the phone. I actually never met him in person.

Q: He give you quarterback tips, what you should work on?
A: Nah, pretty much every time I talked to him he told me, ?Be patient, be patient? and that he believed in me, obviously I?m here, and also just be passionate about the sport and he just kept on saying, ?Win.?

Saw him on the sidelines smiling and joking with a fellow Raider team mate. Good to see him and wish him well. It appears that he may get a shot soon due to the injury to their QB. He may not be ready yet but his baptism by fire may soon begin ready or not. He is a Buckeye that fell from the tree a little early, still wish him well.

Low key...I'll leave that alone as he has been everything but low key, he was the main part of the Tatgate shitstorm and its aftermath.

What I was talking about is how every interview I read, his answers just rub me wrong. For example, when he's confronted about the QB position and stuff, he really just acts like a turd about it. But that's just my IMO.
