QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

"I actually spoke to him and told him he would no longer be credentialed," Dave Ablauf, Michigan senior associate athletic director for media and public relations, told ESPN.com. "He came in under a different name than what we were familiar with. Had the name I knew popped up, I wouldn't have credentialed him."

This part of the article left me sorta confused. Did he to the game under a fake name?

All colleges should ban him if even 1/10th of the things he's accused of have merit behind them. Just seems to be a total sleaze to me.

Used his middle name, Jay Talbott.

Ramzy - Eleven Warriors

I'm not quoting the article, merely linking it. It's worth the click.

It's about what you'd expect in a story like this on the Talbott situation. Ramzy is intelligent and thorough, Talbott comes off as something other than what was portrayed initially, ESPN's conflicts of interest and agenda are on full display, and M*ch*g*n is shown to be completely retarded. Enjoy!

Terrelle Pryor ruling expected soon
ESPN.com news services

The NFL expects to rule on Terrelle Pryor's appeal of his five-game suspension next week, a league source told NFL Insider Adam Schefter on Saturday.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell heard the Oakland Raiders quarterback's appeal Sept. 15 during a hearing that lasted 80 minutes and included Pryor's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and a group of attorneys but did not include Pryor, a league source told Schefter then.

Pryor and Rosenhaus previously had said they would not oppose the penalty the NFL imposed as a condition of making him eligible for the supplemental draft.

Members of the NFLPA executive committee had pushed for the union to appeal the suspension.

The Raiders drafted Pryor in the third round of the supplemental draft. He is behind both Jason Campbell and Kyle Boller on the Raiders' quarterback depth chart and does not count against the Raiders' roster while serving his suspension.

If Pryor wins this appeal, will Jim Tressel also become available for his new job? Appeal or stay with his self imposed sanction? Just wondering what the chain of events may be.
Since it was self imposed from the get-go, it could be lifted. Tressel does not need the money, so I'd imagine that he will stick with it. Lifting it will just put more attention on the reasons why TP and he had them in the first place, and allow another opportunity for a round of ESPN stories.

I think it is all a timing issue. If TP wins, then Tress should reverse it that same day. If, however, the NCAA ruling will come down around that same time frame, the bad press surrounding the NCAA show cause ruling that is almost sure to come - when combined with an announced reversal of the NFL suspension when the circumstance that gave rise to the suspension is in the news - would result in almost guaranteed bad public relations and subject Tress to needless criticism.

A lifting of the suspension in light of the NCAA ruling news cycle would be spun by ESPN and seen by non-fans of tOSU as Tressel using a malleable ethical compass (avoiding the suspension as soon as he could rather than taking it because it was deserved) instead of seeing the decision for what it truly was - a reversal of a ridiculous suspension that Tressel should never have had to self impose in the first place, a suspension that was and is supremely unfair, given the hundreds of examples of coaches having NCAA problems being immediately welcomed into the NFL with open arms despite those NCAA issues.

But we know how it would be spun.

All IMO, of course.

A perfectly valid course is for Tress to do whatever the hell he wants to do, as those that think him dirty will likely not suddenly deem him honest and noble for sticking with it, and those that think him a virtuous victim will not change their mind about his character because of a reversal.

But as it will avoid a negative press cycle for tOSU by his sticking with the original suspension, that is what I think he will do.

Okay, it looks good, but I have to ask one question.

If Talbott really has nothing to do with anything wrong, then why has Ohio State revoked his access to shoot in Ohio Stadium? I believe I read somewhere that he no longer has access to Ohio Stadium.

I agree, he could use an infusion of ethical acceptance. He doesn't need the negative spin that we KNOW will be spun by ESPN. Hope Pryor wins his appeal and Tress takes the high road.

tOSU had to cover themselves. If 80% of what ESPN said about Talbot is inaccurate, but 20% ends up being true, tOSU would get blamed for still allowing him on the sideline at games.

Still no word on Pryor appeal
Posted by Mike Florio on September 27, 2011

Typically, Tuesday is the last day of the week on which decisions to suspend or not suspend players are communicated. That?s because the first official day of preparation for the next game starts on Wednesday.

For Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor, a source with knowledge of the situation says there has still been no decision on the appeal of his five-game suspension. Which likely means that the suspension won?t be lifted before the fourth game of it.

At this point, the only real question is whether Pryor will get any, some, or all of his five game checks. If the suspension is lifted, he?ll make up only one week of practice ? and he?ll be able to play in only one of the five games.

During the suspension, Pryor is allowed to work out at the team facility. He can?t participate in practice.

It?s unclear why it?s taking so long. Given the controversial nature of the NFL?s new approach to delaying the entry of players and coaches who have run afoul of NCAA regulations, if nothing else the decisions should be made on a far more timely basis.

I had the understanding that his access was revoked prior to the mess that started in December. IF so, that would indicate that OSU saw something wrong in Talbot before ESPN ever heard of him.

Perhaps my timeline is wrong. In that case I am inclined to agree with your answer.

If your unclear on the time line, don't worry. espin will trot it out every time there is an Ohio State game on for the next couple of seasons. You should be able to check then.

SportsByBrooks reported that Talbott was ordered to disassociate from tOSU in the middle of the 2010 season. However, that was in the same article that they listed a Pryor-autographed item in an eBay account that was supposedly Talbott's, but was later proven to be somebody else's. They, and ESPN, implied that it was because tOSU knew of NCAA-related problems with Talbott and Pryor, but that hasn't been shown to be the case at this point.

So I'm not really sure when and why Talbott was asked to to longer photograph games at the 'Shoe. But whenever it was done, the compliance department was wise to err on the side of caution.
