If it's out-and-out theft, and there have been reports of missing equipment filed, I don't see how this can hurt the program much...what are you going to do, frisk everyone who goes in and out of the complex?
That's what I was saying...I think it becomes more of a police issue than a "university issue"...unless, of course, there was a coverup involving the university itself.

This seems oddly coincidental...

I really think we've come across the crux of the issue and now know what Dorhmann was after. I'm about 95% certain this was what Dohhmann wanted to report but probably didn't have the concrete evidence.

These kids were "stealing" their own gear, and maybe gear of other teammates to make a few bucks. University realizes equipment has been stolen, files a police report, but the fact of the matter is, the thieves were on the team. I think that would make sense in regards to Tressel covering up...that's a massive story that his star QB is stealing equipment and selling for cash/tattoos....

...and he would've gotten away with it, if it wasn't for those meddling kids!

Wait...wrong thread...

Not if it's unknown and officials think it's simple theft by a random thief.

Again, if the university is given the gear gratis by Nike, what value does one place on the items that were "stolen?" That makes things problematic from a police standpoint.

None of this means that I regard taking this gear as "okay;" I just think it really is not so much a police matter. And just another viewpoint; not trying to say anyone who thinks otherwise is "wrong."

I agree it may be difficult to nail down, but if the university decides to press charges, and I'm not saying they will, I'm sure price could be found by looking at retail or market value.

No argument there, and if I were AD I'd probably look to press charges against one or more gridders (if I had sufficient evidence) as a message to other prima donnas coming in to watch their step. But it needs to be the university bringing those charges - which brings it back to being a university issue. QED.

I doubt they would retro-actively go back and press charges on the team. Maybe they would...

I just think it's fairly obvious these guys took their own gear and sold it for illegal benefits...

If I remember correctly, the game-worn cleats against PSU were to be auctioned for charity. That is probably why they needed a police report. I'm sure there were some disappointed people when it was learned Pryor's cleats wouldn't be available since his cleats were "stolen".
