QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

The article talked about the play where Ray stepped out of bounds and then was the first to touch the ball in the end zone as he dropped it. That pass was not on the last drive....as far as i remember. Keep in mind that as the closer the score, the more beer i drink.

Not that it matters, but when they showed the replay of Small's pattern on that play...it looked like he might have been bumped out...anyone else see that and can clarify?

I hope there was contact...Small has been around too long to take a pattern out of bounds on his own.

TP put that ball right on his hands....it was a nice pass. Second illegal touching call against OSU this season..and the first one wiped out one of the best plays I have seen this year from a college QB.

I'm not perfectly sure of the rule, but yeah, it didn't look to me like Ray just went out on his own.

OSU's Pryor dazzles Tressel
QB?s own toughest critic reads defenses well

COLUMBUS ? It takes a lot to shock or surprise a graying football coach who has owned an AARP card long enough for it to have some ragged edges. Veteran coaches like Ohio State?s Jim Tressel ? they have seen it, heard it, and experienced it all.

So when one of them gets wowed, that?s an event worth noting, and just four plays into last Saturday?s game at Wisconsin, Ohio State freshman quarterback Terrelle Pryor left his coach more than mildly amazed.

Pryor lined up alone in the shotgun as the Buckeyes faced a third-and-five from their 45, and Wisconsin sent a blitz at Pryor, but it developed from a formation he had not seen when reviewing film of the Badgers.

Pryor instinctively adjusted, and threaded a strike to sophomore wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher for a 17-yard gain and a first down. Two plays later the Buckeyes scored the first touchdown on their way to a difficult 20-17 victory.

To me, it looked like there was some contact with the CB that slightly caused Small to go off his line towards the boundary. I think the ref believed that it wasn't enough contact to force Small out of bounds. I also think another ref could have judged that it was enough to force Small out of bounds.

I couldn't argue it either way except to say that I hope in the future, given the exact same coverage and bump from the CB that Small realizes he needs to stay in bounds....it wouldn't take too much effort given the gentle nudge he did receive.

I was just watching lexco's highlight reel of the Wisconsin game, always amazingly well done I might add.

Check out the throw Pryor made to Small on the final drive at the 3:12 mark. How many QBs in college football would even think of throwing that ball, much less complete the pass.

Only though it was just a 13 yd. completion, it was his best pass of the night, imo. First, he was patient in the pocket, dropping back, then sliding a few yards to his left, he then placed the ball perfectly behind the LB's (two of them) and in front of the safeties and hit Small right in the numbers. A thing of beauty....

Here's the deal about Terrelle - his decisionmaking is phenomenal for a frosh. During the course of the game, with the Buckeyes leading or easily in reach, he played a very conservative game, taking sacks rather than risking INTs. Hell, his 2 INTs on the season were better than punts, so who cares? They were truly low-risk passes.

When the game was on the line, Terrelle adjusted his approach in a way really good QBs know how to do. He knew he had to accept more risk, so he did so, though still firmly within the flow of the game.

He is displaying a mental approach to the game that is really precocious. It will be fun to watch this kid the next 2.5 seasons!
the one issue you could raise is about the sacks, theyve been drive killer type sacks, 12-20 yard type sacks. i dont care if you have charlie weiss calling plays for john elway and jerry rice, you carent going to convert many first downs after huge losses. granted you have to take that with the times hes alluded everything a gotten first downs/positive yardage. sometimes id like to see him air mail it into row q. that will all come (most likely) in time

This was what I saw as well. He was clearly bumped but probably a judgment call by the ref.

Couple things...The play to small was a great job by TP keeping the play alive...and a great throw...Small ran a horrible out route, where the CB bumped him off course and when Small went to take it up field he did step out of bounce...Could of went either way on the call, it isn't like he purposely ran out to try to get away from the CB...He would of had to do a tip toe drill to stay in...

As for TP the kid is a star in the making...He is still missing reads, lobbing balls when they need to be thrown harder, and holding onto the ball a little to long at times...I know he always thinks he can make a play and get away from the rush, but sometimes it is best to just chuck it into the 10th row and not take the 10 yard loss...

The play to Hartline sticks in my mind, where Hartline was in the endzone and he had him by a half a step and Pryor lobbed in, and gave the defender the time to catch up and make the play...

But there were great throws he made...The long ball to Robo was right ont he money...If there is better seperation or Robo gets his arm away from the CB it is a great play...This was a great playaction designed play out of the pistol formation and there was no safety to be found...Just Robo one on one with the corner...

The very next play was the fake option pass, that Troy used to run...Pryor had Posey running wide open across the field and just never saw him...

There are still times where TP is not crisp, in terms of him and Beanie and the handoff or keep...

But he is light years ahead of where a true freshmen usually is, and once Tress lets him use more of the field like he did on the last drive against Wisky and using more of the two plays that I described above he will be that much better, and then teams wanting to stack the box and defend the run will get hurt...

The pick against Wiscy was on first down, so I care. :wink2:

It a was bad decision to put the ball up for grabs on first down - if it had been 3rd and 10, then it's the same as an incomplete pass and a coffin corner punt. But on first down, it cost the team a chance to score from the middle of the field.

I somewhat agree and I somewhat disagree.

I like that we called a deep pass play on first down: That's the kind of "mixing it up" that I want to see from the OC.

I like that TP found the one-on-one coverage and threw what I thought was a pretty darn good ball from my amaturish vantage point.

I don't like that the ball was thrown to an RB (even if Saine has the hands to catch that ball moreso than most RBs) against a senior CB...but I think the pre-game expectations was that a safety would follow Brandon out there instead of the corner, so I won't completely fault TP for the lack of recognition.

And I don't like that B Saine put up a fairly weak fight to get inside position (though I give him props on his effort to break up the pass once he lost position) on the route instead of trying to make the catch from behind the defender.

All-in-all I thought there were a lot of positives about the play and though the end result was disappointing I think we complete that pass or get an interference call more often than it gets intercepted.

I hope we see it again.

On the deep throw to Saine, Tress said that they were expecting a safety to line up against BS, thus creating a mismatch. Unfortunately, that did not happen and the Senior CB made a good play on the ball.

Regarding TP throw to Hartline in the end zone, he had to throw against his body, running left and throwing right, and so it is hard to get great zip on the ball from that position.

The thing is the CB gave Saine a 10 yard cushion off the ball and was dropping, We run a skinny post, Saine has the inside position and a better chance to get open than just trying to run by the corner...

As for the throw to Hartline...either way he needs to lob it out in front of him farther or try and get more zip on the ball...His throw allowed the defender to get back in the play...

I thought Robo was open underneath Hartline which would of been the easier throw...

I know i seen at least 1 or 2 deep passes over the middle that pryor made even while there was a man running a shorter middle route. I think it was the last drive where the under WR nearly tipped the ball lol.

Yeah those were on crossing routes...Patterns that we seem to run a lot with the one guy coming underneath at about 5 yards and the deep guy at about 12 yards or so...

The one to Hartline Robo was running a route that was about at the goaline and Hartline was in the back of the endzone...
