QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Our best bet of winning this year is to bench the 5 year senior and let Pryor take over the team. The whole offense looks better when he is out there. The O-line blocks better, the RB's play better, and the WR's catch the ball.

Hands down TP > TB

The next step is to see TP get 50% of the snaps for a full game. Give him an entire quarter at a time and see what he does with it.

It's possible for this team to climb back into the title picture if things change. By the end of November, if Pryor and Beanie have become dominant and torn through the B11, there will be a powerful argument that this "isn't the same team that lost to USC".

There's also a strong possibility of a payback game in the Rose Bowl if USC stumbles along the way.

In any event, there's a lot left to play for, and Pryor changes the team's fortunes.

Really, I think that a lot of starting jobs should be declared as "open" for the next two weeks and that the coaches should make a number of players fight for their spots.

There is ZERO chance we get back to the NC game. Say it's USC in the NC and we are fighting with someone else for the spot, no way they going to give it to us after getting rocked. Say USC loses, no way do we get in because a team that killed us isn't in it. We have no chance at that.

However the season is not over yet, we can certainly win the B10, make the Rose Bowl, and maybe get a re-match with USC.

I'm almost relieved though we won't be in the NC this year, it's weird but true.

We wouldn't have won this game if Troy Smith and Beanie Wells was out there. The defense blew more assignments in that game since well the Florida game. Our defense played scared from the the go and no matter what Todd or Terrelle would have done, it wouldn't have been enough.

Todd is still the same QB who lead our team to undefeated regular season big ten championship. He'll do it again this year.

I'm over the SC game. I'm going forward at this point. Agree about the defense. I won't pretend to know if it's a unit, coaching or combined problem.

Correct, Todd is still the SAME qb, not improved at all. It would have helped the defensive cause if TB doesn't throw the pick or give up the fumble. When did TB lead them to an undefeated regular season big ten championship? Were you in a coma on November 10, 2007?

While I don't agree that there is any chance that we get back in the title picture this year, you do bring up a point that I've been thinking about as well:

If this team shakes things up and gets it's head on straight...if TP becomes the starter by the end of the year and if Beanie comes back at some point to dominate...we very well may gain a little respect back simply because this will NOT be the same team that lost to USC. We could begin the new regime and have a whole different look with a whole different attitude by season's end. I'm hoping at some point this season to hear an announcer say, "wow this looks like a completely different team than the one that lost at USC." :)

The only was USC loses this year is if Sanchez gets hurt. Even then, they will kill teams with their defense. They could lose any other player and not miss a beat. The Buckeyes got lit up by a great team, plain and simple.

I agree with you entirely.

The only comparison I can come up with is the 2006-07 Chicago Bears.

They had a really solid defense, and a pretty good ground game, as well. However, they had Rex Grossman, which is self-explanatory.

The Buckeyes seem to have many similarities of that team. They are a well-rounded team, and their QB is riding off of the success from the rest of the team. However, when Todd steps in against a good defense, and the ground game isn't doing as well, he has a very difficult time producing.

I'm not going to throw Todd under the bridge. The O-line could have blocked better. On that note, I'm not going to play the "what-if" game, either.

All-in-all, Pryor is a more versatile player than Boeckman. I'm not saying start Pryor right away because Boeckman can still be rather efficient. The Big Ten is still in reach, and I think giving TP more experience will benefit this team right now and in the long-run.

I have thought about this for a little while and have reached out to some of the better X and O guys on this board to determine what is best for this team and how should TP be used.

Part of me knows that a Freshman QB regardless of talent is not going to win the conference and will cost us a game or two we could have won with Todd. Pryor brings a LOT to the table as an athlete but little in the way of experience.

The other part of me sees a team that seems to feed off of his energy and excitement. The bench stands up, the players get involved and there just seems to be more effort all the way around when he is in the game.

After reading Alex Boone's comments about how the O could not get fired up at halftime it leads me to believe the team has no confidence that Todd is capable of leading us to a come from behind victory. As a mere fan I share that opinion, but that was my interpretation of the comments.

Todd is a good QB no doubt or he would not be at OSU, let alone starting. The thing is the team knows what Todd is capable of doing and not doing. When Pryor is in there as a fan I am just waiting for something amazing to happen. I had the same feeling with Troy Smith as a QB. Down by 10, no worries, Smith will find a way to make some clutch plays to get the team back in it. I have that same feeling with Pryor, but it is not shared with Todd.

Another thing that makes it complicted to start Pryor is how does it effect the best player on the team, who is Beanie. Can Pryor and Beanine both be effective? Hell can Beanie even play this season? Speilman is not convinced that Beanie and Pryor can both be effective in the same backfield. Only from what we have seen from Pryor I have to agree. What do we see in the coming weeks will make this picture more clear.

I will say the way JT and staff find a way to keep Pryor involved as they build for the futre and attempt to win another Big Ten championship will be fun and interesting to watch.

At this point I think the team needs Pryor on the field more then not. His swagger, energy, and leadership is the shot in the arm this team needs IMO. We have all discussed the "fire" the team needs. Well it is hard to have fire when you have seen the outcome time and time again (with Todd) when you face adversity. I think Pryor with his ability and the simple fact that he is new will bring that spark back.

Park me in the camp that says Pryor needs to start or at least become more involved with the offense every week.

Go Bucks... Beat the tar out of Troy!

what was pryor's longest pass saturday? is he ready to run a full offensive package? i say this becuase i don't think he could run all of our plays yet. now that its apparent he needs to play more i think practices will get pretty intense for him the next few weeks as he tries to get it all down. i don't think we can make the switch cold turkey at this point. i say keep doing musical QB's but up the ante every week until TP is ready to take the reigns.

I agree with the the question of readiness to run a full offensive package, but the stats seem to speak differently about TP's effectiveness in what he did vs. USC.

PASSING Cmp-Att-Int Yds TD Long Sack
Boeckman, Todd 14-21-2 84 0 16 4
Pryor, Terrelle 7-9-0 52 0 15 1
Totals... 21-30-2 136 0 16 5

Ohio State vs Southern California (Sep 13, 2008)

According to the statistics Pryors longest completion was only one yard shorter than Boeckman's.
Not a lot of difference there.
What is more noticable to me is the yards per attempt, number of sacks, and turnover differential.

Understand, but just how many passes does Boeckman make? To my untrained eye, there aren't that many passing plays in the playbook. Pryor should have enough to get by.
