QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Newark Advocate - Past Buckeye QB Gives His Perspective:

Take it from the most coveted quarterback to play for Ohio State: Six-foot-6 prep All-American Terrelle Pryor should be in no rush to make his mark with the Buckeyes.
"When you're a quarterback taking a step up to college or the pros, it's a tougher position than most to step right in and play," former OSU All-American Art Schlichter said. "You're the leader of the team and you're expected to know what everybody's doing and be confident about it, but the game is so much faster.
...

"Some kids are more prepared than others. (Pryor) might be ready to go, I don't know. I'm so shocked that he picked Ohio State when he could have walked into Penn State and Michigan and started as a freshman. "That tells me the kid probably did his research and knows that Ohio State is strong. They've had great recruiting classes the last several years. This one is no exception. We've got several big offensive linemen coming in, which makes a big difference for a quarterback. It looks like Michigan is going to be on the downslope for a couple of years under (new coach) Rich Rodriguez. I think (Pryor) sees that Ohio State is going to be a powerhouse for several years to come."

I'm just so damn happy that we can swear in this thread now.

note: I understand that "damn" is not one of the most colorful swear words, but I thought that this thread might need to be eased into the world outside of the recruiting forum.

of all the saddest "it might have beens" Art Schlichter is right up there.

I still consider him the best QB ever to play for Ohio State.

How'd the reporter get a quote from him? Word on the street is he's a dead man, or certainly in need of new knee caps, if certain parties in Cincinnati ever catch up with him.

Now that it's kind of like the day after Christmas for us Buckeye fans, I kind of started putting things into perspective in my own mind. Bottom line is I REALLY hope this kid can handle the attention and pressure he's about to receive. There is a page and a half of Pryor articles in the Plain Dealer today, and even Buckeye Basher Livingston is saying he'll bring NC's to Columbus. He hasn't even participated in a practice, his thread spent months in lock down mode, and he already has 3 times the number of posts as the thread on our beloved Tressel. He's going to feel pressure like I've never experienced, and hope I never do experience.

But, the thought of Pryor, Beanie, Block O, Saine, more top notch wide receivers than any team should be allowed to have, and a QB that led us to the NC game... wow!!! And then there's that lights out defense that decided to come back this year.... gasp... And we get Michigan at home... crunch!!! I won't lie to you Rich, this one's going to hurt. Bad.

Based on about the last year of his life (#1 recruit in the nation, football state championship, basketball state championship, etc.) and in particular the last 2-3 months, I'm guessing he knows what attention is all about, and so far I think he's handled the pressure he's been under very well.

And like you mentioned, with super stars around him (Little Animal, Beanie, etc.) and experienced leadership across the board on this coming year's team, not to mention Coach T and his staff, I think he'll have all he needs to reach his goals even under the pressures a national spot light and Buckeye Nation likely have in store for him.

I just can't believe all the negative things being said about him on other boards (college and NFL) I never saw it before, I don't know if its pure Buckeye hatred or what, but it makes me love this guy that much more and he hasn't even played a snap yet.

Here's one I haven't seen posted yet.

Moments after Terrelle Pryor ended his news conference Wednesday in the Jeannette High School auditorium, he received a text message from his new football coach, Ohio State's Jim Tressel.
It read: "Terrelle, you are awesome. Your dream has come true. Call me when you have a minute, I love you, man, Coach Tressel."

From the link...

Pryor recalled his first trip to Columbus, saying Ohio State felt like home. "When I get there, I want to help the team win and learn," Pryor said. "I'd like to play some this year. I know some of the runs. I can help and give the defense something else to look at."
The kid is talking about playing on the Scout team. I hear one more word about him being a prima donna or anything of the sort, and I'm going the @*#$ off. Kids that only want attention don't look for a situation where they are on the scout team.

I've had visions in my head for the past two days of Terrelle Pryor slashing up Michigan's defense ala Vince Young in the Rose Bowl.

I can't recall the last time I was so excited about a recruit.
