QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

I thought JT was going to be able to throw in the spring, but would not be able to run. Essentially the opposite of what Brax would be able to do, I guess. Which is to say, JT will be able to work on some of his game, but won't be available for spring game reps.

I guess I don't understand why its a "problem" - its sports you get the time you get to make your case. I understand that we all want it to be "fair" (and maybe this isn't where you're going with this) but, you have to be available to get the same chance, with past resumes as a definite factor. They all have pretty good resumes. Maybe the most interesting QB controversy any of us will ever be around. I mean, not exactly Smith vs. Zwick when you fight over 2 guys you've never seen in a game....
I should mention that I don't have a strong preference about who plays, they all present their own different place in the pain cave for whoever has the unenviable task of stopping them.

That's just it, and to be clear before I start I'm not really advocating what I'm about to say, much less do I think Ohio State would actually employ such a system...

JT, in my opinion, is the best all around QB in terms of decisions and ball distribution. He gets the bulk of the "everyday" snaps.
Brax is an absolute monster with his legs and has the ability to throw (Assuming I'm wrong and he is actually able to throw at the requisite level ever again). You, as an opposing DC, can't sell out to stop what is essentially a wildcat run, because Brax CAN beat you with his arm. It's not like when scUM would bring Robinson in at QB to replace tatertot.
Finally, JC brings a power run game that neither Brax nor JT have and has the ability to sling it deep, opening up running lanes for Zeke, etc.

In short... and again... I'd never expect this to happen... playing all three would give DC's absolute fits to attempt to plan against... much less actually defend

While I love reading these thoughts consistency and establishing a rhythm are the problems I see presented in addition to the differences in cadence and nuance between different quarterbacks. Finally, who gets the #1 reps?

My thought is that there will be a clear #1 who will get the vast majority of the snaps once fall camp breaks. And yes, I'm probably being Captain Obvious here.

Not necessarily. My dad, who is the biggest opponent of the multi-QB system in the world (can't blame him after Jackson/Germaine, Krenzel/McMullen, and Zwick/Smith), unequivocally wants to see us use at least two of these guys at QB. From a more empirical approach, Urban has already made it work when he has two talented QB's with different skill sets (Leak/Tebow)...to that extent, JT is a lot like Leak and Cardale is in some ways like Tebow with his physicality and cannon of an arm. Then Braxton is just another element with his elite athleticism...he is the most dangerous player in space in all of college football.

But I am with the "I don't care who starts" crowd. I obviously love Braxton and have more attachment to him being from nearby where I grew up in Dayton and hell...I started this thread when he was dominating 7 on 7's at WR heading into his freshman year. Plus he got thrown to the wolves when he had no help around him whatsoever and never once complained or pointed fingers. He is a great leader and an outstanding representative of this football team. But you just cannot ignore the incredible season that both JT and Cardale had. Imo, the absolute ideal scenario for Braxton with his injury is to ease back into QB reps while playing HB the rest of the time. He can also be our primary wildcat QB to begin the year and a legit passing threat. Once he regains full strength (if he does), then I would think we want to incorporate him at QB. But I really do think aside from mechanical flaws and accuracy issues the NFL scouts were already worried about, the recurring shoulder injury makes him borderline undraftable at QB even with one healthy year at the position. However, the shoulder injury has zero relevance to his ability to play RB/WR at the next level and with a solid showing there this year, he could move up the boards that way.

Yep. It's not like Whitfield will come out and say that his student won't play at QB because he won't be good enough (if Miller should indeed be beat out by Barrett and/or Jones).

I hear you, but I saw so much mentioned about it that I figured I'd post it. Whitfield is quite the promoter. I just like to hear at least something somewhat positive concerning Braxtons injury

Which ignores Collier. He'll have a chance to be #2 in the spring.

Just got my DVD for the 2014 season which includes Urban talking about all three QBs. Says among other things that they took a lot out of the playbook as soon as JT went down and it stayed out. Talked a great deal about how smart JT was and how much study time he put into the game. Said Guiton was a big help in making JT and CJ realize the amount of work required of the #2 QB. At one point in talking about Brax, Urban states that "He was such a great athlete that he often didn't worry about what he was supposed to do, but just went out and played." Hmmmm.
