QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

St. X prepares for Wayne star | cincinnati.com

How one views the talents of Huber Heights Wayne quarterback Braxton Miller is a matter of perspective.

If you're a football aficionado such as St. Xavier coach Steve Specht, you sit back and enjoy the show.

If you're the guy who has to figure out a way to defend Miller and his teammates, such as Specht has to do in preparation for Saturday night's Division I regional championship game, you're not as enthralled.

"He is fun to watch," said Specht. "He's a misery to prepare for."

St. Xavier (7-4) and Wayne (9-3) play for a berth in the state semifinals Saturday at 7 p.m. at Dayton's Welcome Stadium. The Bombers were the No. 6 seed entering the playoffs, while Wayne was No. 8.

Wayne 28, St. Xavier 24
By Kevin Goheen ? Enquirer contributor ? November 20, 2010

St. Xavier?s run at a third Division I state title in six years came to an end Saturday night with a 28-24 loss to Huber Heights Wayne at Welcome Stadium.

The Bombers rallied from a 21-7 deficit to take a 24-21 lead with 7:34 remaining but Wayne answered with a nine-play, 78-yard drive, capped with a 19-yard run by Anthone Taylor with 5:43 left to give Wayne the lead for good.
. . .

In a game in which both teams used big runs to switch the momentum, Wayne got the final ones to go its way, including a fourth-down conversion pass by star quarterback Braxton Miller to set up the winning score.

Facing fourth-and-7 from the St. Xavier 46-yard line with 6:09 remaining, Miller lofted a pass in the flat to Thomas, who turned upfield for a 27-yard gain. He scored the game-winning touchdown on the next play.
Miller was under heavy pressure on the play but was still able to put the ball on the spot for Thomas to catch over a defender?s hands.

?I knew it was going to be a rollout and I saw on film that they leave the backside open on a rollout,? said Miller. ?We had to hook up on that pass because that was all we had. If we didn?t get it, that would have been it.?

Miller, who will play at Ohio State next season, completed 16 of 29 passes for 178 yards. St. Xavier held him to just 13 yards rushing on 20 carries but Miller?s feet were a big reason why the Warriors converted both fourth down attempts they had in the game and were 9-of-17 on third downs.

Wayne rallies to overtake St. Xavier, reach state semis

Warriors blew 21-7 lead but clinched Region title when Anthone Taylor tallied a 19-yard TD.

DAYTON ? Wayne?s rare landmark win was over, but Braxton Miller had one last good call.

?A magic season? We?ll see,? he said.

?We haven?t made it to the magic land, yet.?
. . .
Wayne faced a desperation 4th-and-7 at midfield when Miller rolled right and heaved a backfoot prayer to a streaking Anthone Taylor down the left sideline that went for 27 yards. Taylor punctuated that by bursting through the Bombers for 19 untouched yards and the winning score with 5:43 left.

As quarterback, not running back, Miller saves Wayne on huge fourth down
By Kyle Nagel | Sunday, November 21, 2010

Miller, seen here earlier in his Wayne career, helped save the Warriors? season with a clutch fourth-down play on Saturday

It will be one of those plays discussed for years in area high school football circles.

And it proved what Wayne football coach Jay Minton has been saying all along, including just this past week: Braxton Miller is a heck of a quarterback, not just a heck of a running quarterback.

Miller has led Wayne by becoming more of a pocket quarterback, not a running quarterback

Practice was happening around him, and Minton was talking about Taylor?s increased role following Miller?s high ankle sprain suffered late in the season-opening loss against Moeller. Following the injury, Wayne was forced to do what it wanted to do all along. Namely, keep Miller in the pocket more.

?We kinda said, ?We gotta change all this,? ? Minton said Thursday. ?He?s not a running back, he?s a quarterback. What we needed to do to really help us was change our whole mentality, because he?s not a running back.?

Miller probably ran a little more than Wayne would?ve liked on Saturday. His official stats were 20 carries for 13 yards, as the intense St. Xavier defense pressured Miller into several scrambles and sacks that caused negative yardage. His longest run was 9 yards.

In the passing game, Miller finished with 16-of-29 completions for 178 yards and a touchdown on a first-quarter strike to Seth Stuart.

The play that symbolized what Wayne hoped to become, and what?s possible moving forward, happened on that defining fourth down.

?It?s easy to put a saddle on him and try to ride him when you have players around him, but not that kind of player,? Minton said. ?It?s so easy to do that. We felt like we could have a special season, and (Miller?s injury in Week 1) kind of woke everybody up.

?Not that we were asleep about it, but he was the biggest part of our offense, and we kinda said after that, he?s got to be a big part, but not the biggest.

?We need him to be that quarterback.?

Wow.. They keep on winning! This week will be their toughest test yet, but with the way Wayne has been playing, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they found a way to win. Deepest run in the playoffs since 1999 for Wayne.

Are any of these games on T.V.??

The St. Eds vs Solon game was on STO SD last week. STO has had one NE ohio game on every week even in the regular season. I also think STO has the state games as well.

The nation's top-rated quarterback is on the verge of leading his team to Stark County ? a notion that many pundits didn't see coming just a few short weeks ago.

Wayne (Huber Heights) senior Braxton Miller - who verbally committed to Ohio State this past summer - continued his team's improbable postseason run by helping the Warriors earn a 28-24 triumph over Cincinnati St. Xavier in the Division I regional final Saturday night.

"A magic season? We'll see," Miller told the Dayton Daily News. "We haven't made it to the magic land, yet."

Wayne (10-3), which was the No. 8 seed in Region 4, won its seventh consecutive game with a win over the Bombers at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.
