QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

I give a lot of credit to Braxton for keeping his head up and sticking with the team. If he changes his mind and decides to leave for the NFL, then good luck to him and he's handled everything at OSU very well. Good luck and heal quickly.

I hope he does come back because not only would I love to have him for another season in scarlet and gray, I don't see him translating to the NFL. Not at QB, anyway. Some of the best college players just didn't fit in the NFL. I think Braxton is one of those guys, especially given the issues he obviously has now with his passing arm.

I wish him the best, no matter what.

Sorry if already covered, but can one of you medical types walk me through some questions:

1. What is the relationship between this injury and the February surgery?
2. If there is none, WTF?
3. If there is, WTF?

See here: http://www.hopkinsortho.org/labrum_tear.html

Braxton had a partially torn labrum. They performed outpatient surgery at OSU on either Feb 20 or 21. Won't speculate where it went wrong or if Braxton rushed back too quickly, but from interviews conducted the last couple of weeks we know he accelerated his rehab by doing tennis balls for about a day and going straight back to throwing a football, and we know he was orchestrating summer 7-on-7s per Herman, who would not speak to precisely how much work he did or when he started, since Herman isn't allowed to know, though he did offer that Braxton was going about every other day.

Well I love that Brax wants to come back and I really hope he can. As others have said, the team overall will likely be much better next season with the experience and guys returning (barring a mass exodus of Spence, Decker, etc.). I really hope Braxton can return not only for the team and the story, but I really want to see him succeed and find himself a spot in the NFL. In any event, I still expect him to be a big leader for us this season.

FWIW, I read this article: http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2013/9/15/4723700/nfl-injuries-dr-james-andrews
Within it, the author talks about Andrews surgically repairing Clemens labrum back in the 80s. Guess it depends on the severity. If it's torn so much that his (Braxton's) shoulder completely dislocated, then I'm inclined to follow your thoughts more. Granted, the science has advanced greatly in the last 25+ years.

The science has advanced and I am certainly no doctor but in the pitching world it's pretty much "elbow=no big deal, shoulder=oh fuck".

Hope it isn't the case with Brax who had a lot of arm strength to work with.

Great that Miller wants to come back. Great kid all around and true Buckeye. BUT, what if JT comes in and leads this team to an undefeated or 1 loss season? Could happen and would really hate being in the coaches shoes.

Aww dang. Hooters is offering me $500k per year to spend my Saturdays in their bar, drinking beer, eating wings, checking out the... um... scenery, and watching football, and drinking beer, and eating wings. But I also got a job offer from Buffalo Wild Wings to do the same thing, and to help judge their weekly wet t-shirt contests.

Let's cross that bridge if/when we get to it.

When Braxton had the initial outpatient surgery... that implied to me they went in to cut away the lose 'flaps' around the tears and just cleaned it up (so the loose flaps don't wedge into the joint and lock it up)... and not the 'went in and fixed it up'... with perfect hindsight they wish they did (but it's a lengthy and arduous rehab)... those tears must have been more significant and lent themselves to further tears which unstabilized the whole shoulder thus the dislocation where the whole joint came undone... Andrews is considered THE GURU on planet earth in this area... He'll put it together as well as it can be... but regardless, just as @Jaxbuck sited... shoulder issues have a way of impacting a career if you need the shoulder to wing something for a living

Nah, not for me. No one will live up to Troy Smith IMO, atleast not anyone i've seen. Signed as an athlete, played as a running back, made back up, made starting QB, won the HT, and got us a national title. *gush* I hate it soooooooooooooo fucking much that his pro career has been what it has.
Uhhh, no. That would be Krenzel - except for the "Signed as an athlete, played as a running back, made back up, made starting QB, won the HT," part. Well maybe with the "played as a running back" part too.

Any chance you have a recording of that game that you could post here? Would love to see it, 'cause my copy of that game was destroyed after my recorder mysteriously threw itself out of a second-story window.
