Agree. Even if it turns out to be "all good" when he gets the MRI tomorrow, doesn't mean it's really all good. He obviously isn't 100% and with his injury history, could be a season long problem going forward even if this checks out and it is only additional inflammation. Fingers are crossed. Too many uncertainties on this team to lose a Heisman candidate at this stage and not expect a drop off year.

if i'm coach meyer and if braxton happens to wake up tomorrow or wednesday feeling good to go, i would tell braxton that it has not yet been determined who the starting quarterback for navy will be. if that means going thirds with the ones in practice, so be it. i'd say, "boys, you have one week to tell me who the starter is." the player speaking the loudest better be braxton. again, that's if braxton's ready to go and the mri doesn't show further damage.

Normally, it's not a long throw, 10-20 yards in the air. It's not like Brax tried to throw the ball 70 yards and hurt his arm doing it. Sort of like pulling a hamstring,....while jogging.

BTW, when a pitcher throws a change up, the arm's motion starts the same as a fast ball. The stress occurs when the pitcher doesn't follow through as he would with a fastball. I'm guessing you knew that, but my point is, no need for such deception on an out route..

At this point I would hope that Meyer picks his 2nd string man and goes with it for the first 2 games at least. The team can't focus solely on preparing for Navy either; they won't see that again for the rest of the season. He just recently said that guy was JT, so I hope he either sticks with that or quickly goes back and makes it Cardale. No need for a Clowns-type circus show throwing practices into chaos to split reps in thirds or even halves.
Designate the starter and start putting together the playbook they'll have to work with b/c most likely it'll have to be trimmed and tailored to JT or Cardale.

There were already a lot of red flags wrt Braxton... enough to indicate it's not just him whose being cautious. I don't think it's a mental problem either. I'm waiting for the medical to know if it's a season-long issue, but seems safe to say right now that he can't possibly be expected to be ready for the openers.

Anyway - maybe Braxton threw the out with a different arm motion or something and felt a pop. Did we ever hear what was actually the problem they fixed when he went under the knife? Sometimes after any type of surgery on a joint you'll have scar tissue pop loose which can cause some discomfort and make some noise - this might be the best case scenario.

Slow down and back away from the cliff. Braxton was never going to be another Troy Smith. For one, Braxton is a superior runner while Troy was a much more refined passer, especially early on.

If anything, JT might be more of a Troy Smith clone than you realize. He's similar in size, his throwing skills outweigh his open-field running ability and the coaching staff is talking about how he is as a leader already.

Give it time and trust the coaches.

I was just thinking the same thing. To me, the backup situation did not hold a lot of my attention until now...and really, it was not that important at the time even looking back. But now, you need a guy to step in and be THE guy...you cannot have a starting QB battle less than two weeks before the game. That being said, UFM knows better than all of us and I am sure he will handle this situation better than any coach in the country. Urban knows his QBs and will get us ready.

As to the last point, I was either naive or out of touch with the situation apparently. There was constant prodding into the situation and I thought it was media paranoia with nothing else better to talk about. Now it rings that everyone was skeptical about his coming back that early and the possibility of this happening. I think that all is utter Mark May and the staff was actually being as cautious at possible, this was just something unforeseen given his injury. That or it was medical malpractice...no way the coaches were going to risk this during practice, even if it meant missing a couple games early on.

It's too early to tell what the injury means... even after we know how bad it is. Could be a tweak and he's back in a week or it could be season ending which means he wasn't 100 percent to begin with. It could be something in between and he comes back in time for when we could need his leadership. Anyway, in all of our big games over the past couple of years it was basically limit Braxton and /or Carlos and you've got a chance against OSU because the pass defense isn't stopping anybody with a true run threat and you might be able to outscore them. That should be different this year.

Was I confident Braxton would take advantage of all the weapons Urban recruited? Hell no. I think all of us hardcore fans knew because of his style of play and how much he puts on his own shoulders (no pun intended) something like this would happen eventually. That's why everyone was worried about the quality of the back-up before the season even started! Kenny G ran the offense and we beat the teams we should have beat yet he was not recruited to be the quarterback of the future. JT was, he's got a significant number of practice reps, he's surrounded by world class talent and he's got just enough inexperience to have to take advantage of that talent.

This season just got a lot more interesting.

I'm sure on the old site I would get dinged for this, but this could be a blessing in disguise for the offense. Last year, at least to my eyes, the O looked better when Kenny was running the show.

This is NOT to take anything away from Braxton. I love the guy. He's a ridiculously good athlete, and if anyone ever questions his heart, drive, or competitive spirit, I will be the first in line to disagree with them, BUT it seemed to me that the staff got tunnel vision pretty often with him. He doesn't have to make ALL the plays. It's a team game. The staff incorporated the rest of the team into the plans better with Kenny at the helm. The BiG championship game is example A: you have a running back averaging 7+ ypc for the entire season, with only ONE negative carry, and you give it to Braxton TWICE to the outside when the game is on the line. If Kenny was under center, I'm pretty damn sure that Hyde would have gotten the call, and the results would have been different. I know, ifs and buts, my aunt, etc, but that's just how I see it.

Catch-22 I guess. What are you gonna do...
