The Heisman award was a real distraction for Smith and the team. He was away from the team for a couple of weeks afterwards on sponsored trips and the like, if I recall correctly. Several BP posters close to the program were asking where he was and why the Buckeyes were not preparing more. I blame the Heisman for Ohio State's lack of preparation and blow-out loss.

Miller is a very talented young man. I'm really looking forward to his performance next year when he takes another step up. However, he had a few games in which he really showed some opportunities to improve.

He's clearly not the winner this year and I would much rather that he not get dazzled by the lights of the circus.

Young man, take that step up, lead your team to a NC and that trophy will be yours. When the circus comes to town, turn down the parade until after you win that NC game.

This is the truth. They were talking about the same things Troy was experiencing with Te'o's itinerary. 5 cities in 7 days, from the West Coast to New York. It's basically a week of banquets that make you sluggish with limited opportunities to work out and missed bowl practices with the team. It's no wonder Heisman winners don't always perform well if they're in the big game:

That said, unless Lee and USC improve greatly next year, and Klien out of the picture that only leaves Manziel imo to get between Braxton and the Heisman next year. I think Manziel will have a good year next year, but another 10-2 or 9-3 regular season will probably sour on voters while Braxton has a good chance to run the table again.

Miller also got 5 second place votes. Other seven first place votes went to Taylor Martinez (4) and Montee Ball (3).

That means there were actually two Big Ten coaches who did not put Braxton Miller on their ballot (1st or 2nd) for the Silver Football.

He was named on 11 of 12 possible ballots (coaches cannot vote for their own players), receiving 5 first- and 5 second-place votes. Wisconsin's Montee Ball came in second; Nebraska's Taylor Martinez took third.

Miller still has a lot of work to do as a passer -- his mechanics need refining and his accuracy is below-average as a result. He also needs to cut down on the number of his attempts into coverage. Still, Miller is among the most dynamic playmakers in college football today.

At this point his best trait by far is his mobility. Miller's instincts and vision are outstanding, and he has a unique combination of size, power and elusiveness as a runner. The more we study the tape the more we love his gutsy, competitive nature. This guy is a big-time talent with the intangibles you look for in a leader, and he should only continue to improve as he gains more polish as a passer and more experience in Urban Meyer's offense.

I think McShay meant as a runner and I can't fault him on that observation. EDIT: looking at it in context shows me he was only referring to him as a runner when he made that comment.

as a QB, you are correct of course. And even when he did get the hot receiver he threw the ball 89234092834098320943284 MPH over a 5 yard span.
