QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

Maybe this injury will be a good thing for Brax. For one, he's now seen his team (and it is his team) come back and play competently without him on the field. Hopefully the light comes on for him and he realizes that he doesn't have to do it all himself, that he can trust the guys around him to make plays if he gets the ball to them on time and in the right position.

Hey, Braxton was tackled hard and he didn't fumble the ball! he could have run out of bounds but chose to make the big play and get the extra yards. I hope this doesn't deter him this week from doing the same.

He actually should have went out of bounds at the end, there is no reason for him to take that hit. he had nowhere to go. He is our QB

Uh, he was running ahead of the defender...he had no idea when or how the defender was going to tackle him (i.e., grab him by the upper jersey and yank him down). Had he ran out of bounds before he got caught from behind, people would instead be criticizing him for not trying to continue outrunning the defender. It's not like the defender was coming from the front/side and thus knew exactly when he was going to get tackled...

It's hard to question his decision making, cause had he somehow broken a tackle and taken it to the house, he'd be proclaimed as the best player ever by every channel running highlights. He's going to try to beat the guy every time on a play like that, in a game in which he struggled a lot. It's tough to pick and choose when he should run OOB because he's such a crazy runner you never know when he might get out of trouble and break away from tacklers and make an insane play.

That being said, I think running OOB more often after this last scare has to be expected and if people get pissed, then they'll get pissed. Rather have Miller for the last 4 games than have him try to pick up 4-5 more yards on a run.

just watched it again. he was not ahead of the defender by any means, and there were other defenders right ahead of him, but might have been too far from sideline to avoid hit and go out of bounds in this case.

But no I don't think he would get criticized for stepping out of bounds at the end of a run, and avoiding a hit. He is not a RB, he is our QB. If he is fighting for 1st down, or fighting to get in EZ I agree. but otherwise minimize needless hits for an additional yd by sideline. He gets dinged up a lot. and we need him to stay healthy despite how well Kenny G did in relief

Just to reiterate, the rule clearly states you have to grab the "inside of the collar/should pads" and quickly yank a guy down. The defender did indeed "yank" Braxton down, but he did not grab the inside of the collar, therefore it couldn't have been called a horsecollar tackle. Now, if you want to make the argument that the refs should have/could have called unnecessary roughness, then go for it. But the the way the rule is written makes it clear that was not a horsecollar tackle.

Personally, it's been about 3 consecutive weeks of guys hitting him on the ground late, taking cheapshots and so on. I'm getting pretty fucking tired of it.

Oh, and how was that late hit at the end of the half not an ejection? The guy could have counted to three before he hit him, followed by driving Braxton into the ground.

Dirty dirty dirty.

Nor was it immediate.

The problem is he's tried to run out of bounds several times this year, took a nasty late hit a couple of times, and gotten injured either way. Not a whole lot that an athlete like Braxton Miller can do to avoid injuries and still play the way he plays. Nature of the beast.

I was thinking about mentioning this as well, because in the MSU game it seemed like he was more willing to go out of bounds, but after he had numerous instances in which he was hit while doing this or already out of play, he seems to have just said forget about it unless it's an obvious situation. Why run OOB and get hit when you can stay in play and pick up 5 yards while getting hit? Hell, even if he slid, he'd still get speared on landed on.

At least in bounds he's taking normal hits for the most part. Out of bounds everyone is diving into his legs.

BTW, he really needs to go to the Beanie Wells school of stiff arming. Don't just stick it out there. Punch them when they get close.

He runs like a running back. If you notice, running-backs get to come out of the game several times, whether due to injuries, scheme, or just out of breath. Braxton doesn't have this luxury because he is the quarterback. When he comes out of the game for a few plays, it's easier to notice because he is the QB. This makes him all the more impressive to me, especially when he goes for 20 carries or more a game.
