QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

No question BM needs to take care of the ball better, but Imo if he was in for the complete game we would of scored one if not two td's. The same cannot be said about JB. He its what he is, and gives us no chance of wining because he is incapable of putting points on the board against decent competition. Its rebuild time at qb, I'm willing to go through some growing pains when I can see potential like I do with BM. There is no potential in JB, again he is what he is. And for anyone to think that he has something more to give then what we've seen is fooling themselves. He its doing the best he can, but its not enough to be a starting qb at OSU.

We definitely need to replace Joe with Braxton fulltime. The offense looked a lot more dangerous when Braxton was leading it, even though he did drop the ball on pretty much his most crucial possession. But considering how bad Bauserman looked today (slow throwing motion, uncomfortable) we've got to just go with Braxton and give him the playing time he needs to improve his game.

with all do respect. I did not like what i saw. I think he looked like a deer in the headlights. I think he is CLOSE to being what WE want. But what i saw tonight didnt make me happy. Gotta get him a WHOLE game to get some rhythm, but thats me.

which is about what you would expect from a freshmen QB who has gotten very little time. Problem is, Basuerman has that same look

I absolutely loved what I saw from Braxton in this game. Yeah, he turned it over twice, but he looked to have great command of his mechanics. He moved confidently on his drops and in the pocket. He looks like he will be a VERY VERY good QB.

I said it in the game thread and I will say it again. I would rather watch Miller run and fumble than watch Joe Baseball throw to water jugs and cheerleaders the whole game.

Agreed.....all those years watching Tressel, I can't believe Luke didn't learn at least a little decency. He ought to be ashamed of the amateurish stunt like he pulled by yanking Miller after the fumble. The kid was clearly nervous and trying to make things happen.

Instead, we get more Bauserman. :ohwell:

I can forgive some coaching ineptitude, but yanking Miller after the botched play in favor of Bauserman, who had demonstrated nothing except an ability to go 3-and-out without a turnover, was inexcusable on Fickell's part. This is the kind of thing that can ruin a young QB, and it's something no head coach can do.

Does Miller make lots of mistakes? Unquestionably. But at least he has time to learn, and needs to be given the chance to do so. Bauserman has not given any indication that he is a competent B1G QB, and tonight demonstrated pretty conclusively he will not be one. If Miller isn't the choice, someone else, other than Joe B, must be.

Every time Braxton got in the game, he looked super rattled in my opinion. It frustrates me to see teams all over the country be able to run a basic jet sweep and turn around and see Ohio State struggle with it year in and year out. Braxton is very capable of it doing it athletically, I just wonder if he's arrived yet from a confidence standpoint and if he's getting enough work in practice. I can't stand to see him lacking confidence out there and I think that has everything to do with the constant in and out with our QBs.

I agree. How can this kid ever get any confidence if you yourself (coaching staff) show little to no confidence in him.

Agreed with all that has been said. Braxton is going to make mistakes but he gives us a chance to move the ball, which Bauserman cannot do. I think he will take care of the ball better if you leave him in the game...yanking him right after a mistake is only going to derail whatever confidence he had going in. I'm pretty sure we could get a sick package with Hall, Berry and Miller in the 'Gun if we had a little creativity and practiced it sufficiently.

At this point, it would be absolutely assinine to not have Miller as the starter for the rest of the season. Bauserman is gone after this season while Miller is here for 2-3 more years and will be the starter during that time, so let Miller get as much game time experience as possible to prepare for next season, and to be the most prepared for The Game this year.

This is where we really miss JT most. He would create a new offense/gameplan for Brax going forward, and build on that gameplan throughout the season based on his development. We're not going to get that with his assistants, because that was JT's job.

Truth. It's amazing how more interested I am in watching BMiller than Bauserman

I'm fully in the "play Braxton from here on out and take our lumps in 2011" camp. The kid needs the experience and last night proved the stuggles against Toledo were not an aberration. Previously I supported starting Joe and introducing BM slowly in order to have the best 2011 record possible. Now that we see where 2011 is going we should prepare for the future.
