QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Troy is an athlete. He was recruited as an athlete. As long as he is secure as number 2, he knows he is a snap away from starting, but if he senses Boeckman creeping up, he should ask to explore some other positions, e.g. WR or RB.

I don't think anybody is being judgmental, kippy, and the topic is every bit as legitimate as "who is your favorite Buckeye [position]?". It would be an absurd question if TS didn't have the ability to start elsewhere. He does, that's a fact. Consequently, it ought to be ok to speculate about where and how he ought to use that talent. Obviously , nothing written here has any effect on what really happens.

RugbyBuck - there were only a few who i was referring to as being Judgemental. Not all of us. But i guess that we have that luxury and this is what makes the website go. I sure hope TS does not ever intend to leave TOSU but that would be his call i guess. I want to see him play just as bad as anybody. All those times we saw McMullen hold a clip board left a feeling in our mind Like "What If". But no one will ever debate the play of Craig Krenzel huh? Your right I agree - "Obviously nothing written here has any effect on what really happens". Good stuff there RugbyBuck.

Troy Smith is one play away from being the starting quarterback in one of the premier programs in the nation.

The list of QBs who have spent four or five years at major programs and rarely or never started goes on and on. Ron Macejewski (who I believe had a cup of coffee in the NFL) is a classic example. Troy is something of an exception because he has the talent to play other positions - but OSU is not deep enough at QB to let him move. Other than that the comments I have heard from Troy have been pure class in terms of the way he is handling the situation and the way he feels he is being treated.

But the original question asked how I would feel if I were Troy Smith. For starters I would have given the issue careful thought when I considered accepting a scholarship at a school that had already recruited one of the top QBs in the nation. In making that decision I for one would certainly have considered what might happen if I lost that battle and known in advance what my plans were. So during the third year of my career there would be no decision to make.

Finally, those who are saying he would have only one year of eligibility left if he transfered to a 1A program are correct. That said, as early as next year (with Boeckman having a year of practice under his belt) and certainly in two years (with Schoenhoft on board) Smith could move to another position if that is what he and the coaches wanted.

He went to Kentucky on mine....
Ball State here. He transferred when Zwick went pro his jr. year, which didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. He even had 45 passes, and with my offense I'd guess that was like 120 or so snaps. Then again, Texas won the national championship TWO YEARS IN A ROW!

What a virtual primadonna.

IN my current dynasty, he trasnfered to Georgia Tech. My previous one, Zwick got injured and Troy started 6 games. So he stayed on and actually won the starting job as a senior.

He set the buckeye career marks for passing yards and touchdowns in mine.
I've played 2 different dynasties on mine. One with Smith as the starter, Zwick transferred to Ball State. The other with Zwick, also moved Texas State to division 1, and tried gettin Troy to go there. He went to Troy State instead. All in all, I'd say that I'm much better with Troy at the healm. Probably due to my overall frustration with the super-human feats, of the CPU controlled defensive players on AA and Heisman, when it comes to pass defense.

As for the real Troy Smith. I don't know if we have anything to worry about. I think that he wants to be a Buckeye. If he wants to be a pro QB, and feels that he's not getting a fair shake, then he should transfer. The thing is. With all the people that say he's not getting a fair shot, Troy's not one of them. I think he stays.
