QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Troy was on College football live today, talking about the OSU/UM rivalry. He is still so damn humble, it's great to see. He is always well spoken. I hope after his NFL days are over he takes up some college football annalist job.
Also it's great to hear Troy is going to get some snaps in Cleveland, they love him there. In my opinion Troy is going to be battaling for the starting position next year, and you bet your ass he is going to be studying & working his ass off(like he did for his senior season at OSU) in the offseason to be ready to step up and be a leader.

There sure was a noticeable intelligence level difference between Troy and Steve Breaston, who sounded like an idiot when they interviewed him.

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

BEREA, Ohio -- With a shoulder injury to starting quarterback Steve McNair, rookie Troy Smith is the backup for the Baltimore Ravens.

Smith, who won the Heisman Trophy last year at Ohio State, hasn't played a down but could Sunday against the Cleveland Browns if starter Kyle Boller struggles or is injured.
"(Smith is) as ready as any rookie quarterback that hasn't seen a snap yet," Ravens coach Brian Billick said. "That's a tough load. He's worked hard. He has a grasp of the offense and if he gets put in that position, the game is going to get fast and big. But he knows that. He's been in big games before."

I don't think it will be much longer lol

Well the Ravens forums are overrun with Boller love. Apparently the second half was enough to overlook the pick 6, turnover on downs and the offense being shutout in the first half. One guy called the Browns a far superior team and no one disagreed.

They play SD, NE and Indy next. That should be enough.

The waiting game
Ravens rookie quarterback Troy Smith has had plenty of practice being patient
By Don Markus | Sun Reporter

Troy Smith has silenced the skeptics before.

As a high school senior in Cleveland, Smith was one of the last players added to a celebrated recruiting class at Ohio State that featured Maurice Clarett, A.J. Hawk and Santonio Holmes.

The first time Smith ever lined up in practice for the Buckeyes as a freshman, it was at wide receiver. The first time he ever played in a game, it was returning a kick.

By the time the Ravens rookie quarterback left Columbus after last season, he won the Heisman Trophy - by the largest landslide since O.J. Simpson in 1968.

"You try not to take the approach in that you want to try to prove everybody wrong," Smith said yesterday after practice in Owings Mills. "It's definitely a similar situation. Me being the last guy [recruited], me being the guy that no one knew about, I let that fuel my fire and that was not the right way to do it."

Picked in the fifth round by the Ravens after his draft status plummeted following a poor performance in Ohio State's blowout loss to Florida in the Bowl Championship Series title game, Smith is again in a situation in which many are questioning his ability.

This time, Smith is going to take a different approach.

"With me being older now and having a better understanding, I take it for what it is. Everything happens for a reason," Smith, 23, said. "I'm not trying to play football to try to prove everybody wrong. I'm playing football to become an incredible quarterback. I'm playing football because I love the game."

Asked this week whether he had any plans to use Smith, Billick said, "Not by design - other than there might be some isolated things that you might want to use Troy. Now that he's in the second position, you can put him in and out of the game if you want to change up a little bit."

Billick is understandably reluctant to entertain playing rookie backup quarterback Troy Smith, the Heisman Trophy winner from Ohio State who hasn't played a single NFL snap in the regular season. "He's continuing to learn," Billick said. "That's exactly where he's at and the responsibility that goes with that. Any rookie at this stage in the year that has not played, to go in would be an interesting challenge."

I'm a huge Ravens fan and can tell you that the Boller love is temporary. I don't know of one other fan who thinks Boller is the answer. He will be getting skewered sooner than anyone would think. Hes better than McNair at this point and thats why hes getting talked up. Troy Smith is the real answer and hopefully we'll see him soon. I've never rooted for an injury to a player for my team, other than this one....
