QB Troy Smith (2006 Heisman Trophy Winner)

Dispatch

Troy Smith doesn't listen to naysayers

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Two weeks from today, Troy Smith will know his NFL destination. For now, he's simply determined to enjoy the ride. The journey from college star to NFL draft pick can be a wrenching one as teams and analysts dissect every perceived flaw. The Ohio State Heisman Trophy winner isn't immune. After the disaster in the BCS title game against Florida and because of concerns about his height, most analysts rate Smith a second- or third-round pick in the NFL draft April 28.
"It's incredible to me how people make projections and they don't have a say-so in anything," he said after he and fellow Heisman winner Archie Griffin answered fans' questions last night before a Columbus Destroyers game.
"It's a situation where only a few percentage of people get to go through this. I'm really living it up. I'm living a dream. I'm happy with the situation, and that's how I'm taking it."

Troy is such a quality person. He is an intelligent young man who IMO is going to make a great QB in the NFL. Whichever team that gets him is going to get a steal. The way that he handles himself and the pride that he takes in what he has accomplished is a testament to himself and to the Buckeyes tradition.

Eh, I may get ripped for this, but it's my opinion. I'll start by saying that Troy passed Eddie as my all-time favorite Buckeye this year. Incredible person, incredible story, incredible college QB. In my eyes though, after watching how he struggled against UF in the MNC, I have serious doubts about his ability to become a star in the NFL. I'm not saying he can't do it, he definately can, but he's gonna have to work very hard. Hopefully, he'll use all this criticism as a motivating factor. I'll sure as hell be rooting for him...first thing I'm gonna do after the draft is go get a Troy Smith jersey made for whatever team drafts him (it's nice being in Korea). Hopefully he gets in a situation where he can learn for a couple years behind a good veteran QB and transition into a starting role. Though I hate both teams, I'm hoping either the Iggles or the Ratbirds pick him. McNabb or McNair would make a great mentor, and Troy is definately willing to put in the work.

idk anymore, after hearing the reports after the NC about his preperation and now seeing how he's 'cut loose' after the season ended i'm a little disappointed.. by cut loose i mean somethings that are better left of this board.. Troy was my man from day 1 with J Zwick.. rooting him on his entire time at tOSU, even before everyone else was. I remeber in the shoe, and fiesta bowl.. when troy made a bad play the things people said about him before he became everyones golden boy.. i was in full support.. now idk anymore. i wish him the best and would love to see my BROWNS get him, because i do agree he will be a good, if not great, NFL QB. Heres to hoping he keeps it together, he's done a tremendous job since his freshman year.

Why rip TS on a Buckeye board and then refuse to even attempt to substantiate your judgments by only saying, "i [sic] mean somethings [sic] that are better left of [sic] this board?" Then again, the second part of your post (in which you imply that you're more of a TS fan than others b/c you supported him "before everyone else") does nothing but reinforce your self-righteousness.

From Peter King's Monday Morning QB:

"9. I think too many teams are underrating Troy Smith, and he will make them pay."

He will make a lot of teams pay before his career is over in the NFL. Troy is a winner and a leader. I love how he is not sweating all the bad pub he is getting. He will just see how the chips fall and make the most of his opportunities. I can't imagine anyone sitting down with this young man and not coming away impressed, and believing he could lead their football team to success. I hope he lands in Cleveland, I will be first in line for my T.Smith jersey.

This just in:

Troy Smith is reported to have borrowed 3 dollars from his friend in 5th grade, but has yet to pay him back. This may raise some red flags with NFL GM's, and is something to pay attention to as it could mean some serious character issues for him in the NFL.
