QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

I don't see how "that window has closed". Having a mobile QB who can throw is always a good thing to have, especially one that has two years in the system and knows the playbook inside and out...

I don't think anyone would have a problem with that. It only looks bad because he was talking a lot of trash and now is already in the transfer portal without the competition even starting. Should he transfers after the competition if he lost everyone would look at him like they would Burrow if not for all the talk.

I just don’t think he’s as good a fit in the system we expect to see going forward as he would’ve been for the offense for which he was recruited. He could’ve been a guicker JTB who could throw and could still be that guy somewhere else. I just don’t see Day as looking for that. Maybe had Haskins been just average or so this season we might see more of a return to the run-first read option, but that’s not where we’re headed.

I don’t either, especially not with Fields. I just think, plus/minus considered, Tate’s transfer decision (however it may’ve come about) is the right call for everyone. I’d love to have seen him as our QB, but I’d rather see him get to play two years somewhere else. I’m still a Tate fan.

The problem with that thinking is Fields didn't come here to be JT Barret he came here to be Haskins. That doesn't mean the read option is going away completely but it will probably be de-emphasized.

De-empathized or not, you still need someone who can run it well. The issue will be whether the gap in the passing abilities of Fields and Martell will be sufficiently greater than the gap in their running abilities.
