QB Tathan Martell (transfer to Miami, transfer to UNLV)

Good lord. One of the things people don't account for when the argument of paying players comes in to play. What would that training/diet plan run you for those results in 6 months?
Counter-point: this proves how much of a full-time job this is for these kids. People that get those kinds of results are living in the gym and adhering to a strict meal plan.

6 months can get a whole arm sleeve filled in?!

(too soon?)

I love scrolling down the thread after seeing an update and knowing you will have addressed all the important issues (and what I was thinking).

Back to Tate, glad to see he is getting some early results. If he absorbs the system, learns from JT, and gets in the right physical shape, sky is the limit.

A lot of people thinking Tate will never start here due to the QB room, and his size.... I'm not one of those people, I think he's the most talented QB overall on the roster

Yeah, some people thought that Doug Flutie was too small to play college football too.

Re: Martell attended Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. As a senior, he was the Gatorade Football Player of the Year after leading the team to a 15–0 record, while passing for 2,362 yards and 41 touchdowns, and rushing for 1,253 yards and 21 touchdowns. For his career, he went 45–0 as a starter and finished second in Nevada history with 7,510 passing yards and 113 touchdowns

He has that one intangible quality that you definitely want in a starting QB at Ohio State: He knows how to win!!!

I love Haskins and his talent, but his time is at least another year away, which is too much time to give Martell to catch up imo.

+ Meyer has been very impressed by Tate Martell. He’s the kind of guy you can build your program around.

Here's what you need to know from Monday's meeting with Meyer:

  • Tate Martell has done "some really nice things" but is still getting a true grasp of the offense. Martell is "a very confident guy" but Meyer says he loves where he's at right now.
  • The true backup quarterback competition is between Joe Burrow and Dwayne Haskins, not Martell.

Apparently he is still 4th string and/or they really want to red-shirt him (i.e. don't want to waste a year of his eligibility as a backup behind a 5th year senior that is gong to get 99.9% of the quality playing time)

Really glad to hear it. While I am not surprised, I was curious to see how his game would translate and it sounds like he is coming along nicely. What a great position to be in to come in and learn from JT, Burrow and Haskins, redshirt and learn the ropes.

I wouldn't sleep on young Martell. I've seen too many people write him off, and think that once Jones hits campus next year that it throws Tate to the back of the lineup. I think he has a ton of talent and leadership qualities and regardless of who's the starter next year, he will make it interesting
