If the move is indeed permanent, and if we do indeed get Pryor, wouldn't that make QB a HIGH priority for the class of 2009? With Todd graduating and all...

3 will be serviceable by next fall...and 09 has some prime targets as discussed in the 09 recruiting thread.

but back to Robbie here....

I know that we're ok for the 2008 season, but after Todd graduates (in spring '09) we'd be left with Henton and TP, unless we pull in a QB in the '09 class.

But, right, back to Robbie. I'd hate to see him go (if indeed the move to TE is permanent). But, I certainly wouldn't blame him. Lots of eligibility left. Lots of teams who'd love to have him. It would be hard to give up the dream of playing college QB. Robbie was an Elite 11 QB as a senior in HS, right?

That would be nice...but highly doubt it will happen with nicol and ballard there already
If Robbie is able to play on the same level as them... why not? He hasn't been taking reps at TE for long, but he does most likely know every route and formation he'd be expected to run. It's not like he's switching to TE from linebacker.

We'd still have three scholarship QBs: Henton, Bauserman, Pryor. Actually, Bauserman isn't technically on scholarship since minor league baseball is footing the bill, but since he originally committed to us after we offered him (2004 class) I consider him a scholarship-level QB. In 2009 Henton will be a RS-junior, Bauserman a RS-sophomore, and Pryor will be either a true soph or a RS frosh. It would be nice to get a QB in the 2009 class, but I wouldn't consider it a "high" priority. Still, I think you can rest assured we'll take one in 2009, whether or not we get Pryor.

Right. Sorry. Forgot about Bauserman, with the whole baseball thing.

Anyway... best of luck to Robbie with the position switch. He's certainly athletic enough to make the change, if that's what he wants.

Another interesting wrinkle - what if the Defense has to respect the possibility of the throw if Robbie is in the red-zone?

How about the first snap Henton takes at QB has Robbie lined up behind Robo? That could make LSU's defense blow an assignment or two.

Former QB Schoenhoft adjusts to new role
By Doug Harris

Sunday, January 06, 2008

NEW ORLEANS ? Rob Schoenhoft never pictured himself playing tight end, and he hopes it's not a permanent move.

But the former Ohio State No. 2 quarterback has been lining up there on the scout team, and he's willing to practice in LSU colors if it will help the defense prepare for the national title game.

"Of course, it's disappointing. I came here to be a quarterback," Schoenhoft said Saturday at the Buckeyes' media event in the Superdome. "But there's no doubt about it ? I'm going to give it my all. That's the type of player I am, and that's the type of person Coach Tressel coaches us to be.

"We've all worked way too hard for me to mope around."

The 6-foot-6, 244-pound sophomore battled junior Todd Boeckman for the starting QB job in the preseason, but had fallen to No. 3 on the depth chart behind redshirt freshman Antonio Henton, who is being groomed for a possible cameo in Monday's game.

"He's got a little more speed, and he's a little more agile than Todd and I," Schoenhoft said. "That's what LSU's defense suffered against ? speed at the quarterback position."

The Cincinnati St. Xavier product was told he's free to move back to his old position in the spring, although another quarterback could be in the mix next season if OSU lands the top high school senior QB in the nation in Terrelle Pryor.

Schoenhoft would have two years of eligibility left if he transfers, but he insists that's not a consideration yet.

"That's something I'm going to have to address in the offseason, what the situation is," he said. "My best friend's here, my girlfriend's here, my family is an hour and a half away. I love Columbus. It would take a lot for me to leave."

You don't see too many QBs wearing #89...
It has been stated flatly and unequivocally by BP's best source on the subject that the move is permanent.

That having been said, it seems entirely possible to me that the #89 that he is wearing is the number of LSU TE Keith Zinger. It stands to reason that Zinger is the guy RS is emulating, although they have other competent tight ends.
