St. Xavier quarterback ranked No.7 in the nation

St. Xavier quarterback Rob Schoenhoft, one of the country's most heavily recruited prep players, announced Thursday that he will play college football at Ohio State.
Schoenhoft is rated the No. 7 prep quarterback in America by ESPN.com recruiting analyst Tom Lemming. Several recruiting Web sites, including Ohio prep specialist jjhuddle.com, rate Schoenhoft the No. 1 quarterback in the state's senior class.
"It came down to Michigan and Ohio State, and Rob said his dream was to play at Ohio State," said Steve Specht, St. Xavier's new head coach. "I think it was his goal to play there all along."
Schoenhoft, attending the EA Sports "Elite 11" quarterback camp this week in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., could not be reached for comment.
Schoenhoft telephoned Specht with his decision Thursday.
Schoenhoft is coveted for his size (6-foot-6, 235 pounds), strong arm and athletic ability. He also is a standout basketball player.
"I think he has the quickest release of any quarterback I've coached against or seen on film," Specht said. "Some people say he almost throws the ball too hard, but he's worked on that."
Last season, Schoenhoft completed just 36.8 percent of his passes (63 of 171) for 888 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions.
"He had a lot of dropped passes, and from looking at films, if those had been caught Robbie would have been over 50 percent," Specht said.
St. Xavier finished 6-3 but missed the Division I playoffs last season. In basketball, Schoenhoft plays forward and was Enquirer honorable mention all-city last season.
He had 1500 yards passing with 15 TDs and 4 INTs last season
