This kid sounds rational and well-grounded to me. There is a lot of hype around him and NIL is going to have effects on players, but I am not as concerned by what I see so far as others. It sounds to me like he intends to come in, get embedded in the system, and come out smoking hot in 2022.

Yeah I've been thinking... this is a good move for Ewers for multiple reasons. Obviously for NIL, can get to the NFL faster, can avoid being hurt in HS and can practice against our first team defense all year while learning our playbook as a worse case.
Sure it's great starting another year in HS but he benefits more playing against our 1st team.

Ewers is the new #1 overall prospect in the 2021 class, with a 247 Composite score of a perfect 1.0000.
Ohio State's Class of 2021 now has 6 of the top 11 prospects in the country:

Taking the third best punter out of this years ProKick Australia class tanked the score. Remove Jesse Mirco's 0.8168 and the class average is 95.58.

Yeah, I think I’m wrong. It looks like it will be a three way battle for that starting spot in ‘22 with potentially two (or three of Miller is still around) players transferring out as a result.
I do think the goal will be to keep everyone around until next spring when that competition is unleashed, and then look to bring in a transfer for depth if enough people (ie all of them) transfer out upon a decision being made.
It will be an intense situation to navigate.

Wouldn't he be going up against 2nd and 3rd string defenses? Without getting QB1 reps, would he see the first team defense in action?

While crazier things have happened, barring injuries, I think it’s unrealistic to assume that QE can come in and take the starting job from any of the three QB’s currently on the roster this year off of a couple weeks in training camp. Not only have those guys been preparing like college players throughout the spring and last year’s shortened season (for Stroud and Miller), but it’s not like they are slouches. Hell, doesn’t Stroud have decent heismann odds and he’s never played a game? I mean it’s based off speculation, but it’s not like these guys weren’t highly rated players in their own right. I think QE made this move knowing full well that this is likely a redshirt year. If he’s playing at anytime this year, I think that means our QB situation is in big trouble (which I don’t think it will be).
Now, next year will be interesting regardless if Stroud (presumably) or someone else wins the job. Will QE stick around for two years to wait for his shot if Stroud/Miller takes a stranglehold on the job? I think he does (especially if we win a NC/heisman during this period), but if McCord wins the job, he’s definitely gone after this season. And how many other QB’s stick around?
Dicey QB situation for Ryan Day and co., but definitely one of those good problems to have. I’m not too worried because whoever starts over the next couple of years in this QB room is a beast and their backup will probably be too.

According to multiple Lettermen Row sources, the Buckeyes are expecting it to take about 10 more days before Ewers has finished his final credit to graduate high school, complete all the paperwork for enrollment and then actually get cleared to start practicing during training camp. Technically Ewers hasn’t even signed with the program yet, which means nobody at Ohio State will even be able to comment on him directly when the quarterbacks preview training camp on Tuesday.
Generational talent or not, the Ewers timeline only leaves three weeks of practice at most during the most important on-field development and installment period on the calendar. Considering that just about every quarterback who has ever worked with Day has stressed the need for a full year to learn the offense, improve physically in the weight room and get comfortable with all the responsibilities of college life, that is obviously an incredibly tall order for Ewers.
