QB Quinn Ewers (transfer to Texas)

The first half was back and forth with six lead changes. Southlake Carroll got on the board first before Duncanville came back to lead 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Ewers scramble for a 13-yard touchdown early to put Southlake Carroll back in front 14-13. After a Duncanville touchdown, Ewers threw a long touchdown pass to put Southlake Carroll back in front, 21-19 this time. But Duncanville closed out the first half scoring with a touchdown and 2-point conversion to go into the locker room with a 27-21 lead. Ewers finished the first half completing 5 of 14 passes for 103 yards. He threw for a touchdown and rushed for one.

Ewers connected on his first four passes to start the second half and Southlake Carroll got a 31-yard field goal to cut the Duncanville lead to 27-24 with 2:55 left in the third quarter. Running back Owen Allen followed with a spectacular 37-yard touchdown run to give Carroll the lead back at 31-27. Carroll got a 26-yard field goal part-way through the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 34-27. From there the Southlake Carroll defense did their job and shut out Duncanville the rest of the way for the win.

Duncanville had knocked Southlake Carroll out of the playoffs the past two seasons. Southlake Carroll’s only loss last season was to Duncanville in the state quarterfinals. Southlake Carroll now takes on Austin Westlake next weekend in the 6A state championship game.

I do believe that the coach of Southlake Carrol's dad is the coach of Westlake. So it'll be the "Dodge Bowl" for Texas state championship

Sarkisian still needs to show that he can lead a program. He is a great play caller but Ryan Day has now led a program to the playoff and the championship game. Sark never came close to any such accomplishments as a head coach.

And I would make sure Ewers knows that if Sark tries to bring up last night with Devonta Smith and Najee Harris as some evidence of his prowess.

Dude couldn’t even succeed at USC. A school in the middle of some of the most fertile recruiting ground in the country. I think it would be very premature to assume he’s a slam dunk at UofTejas.

Yea, Sarkisian has shown that he is a mediocre head coach. Texas at best made a lateral move with hiring him, IMO. Texas fans are in for a real rude awakening if they think last nights performance is going to ever be the norm for him as the head man there. If anything the poor guy created some unrealistic expectations for himself.

Why is Sark, who has already failed as a head coach, any more likely to be successful at Texas than the winning OC from the 2014 National Title team, Tom Herman?

Moreover, the dude is a QB. Texas doesn’t have nearly the same players or coaching talent at WR to make Quinn look good. There’s been plenty QBs draft with underwhelming talent around him, but it makes a big difference in draft positioning when you’re playing for a loaded team. Take Smith and Harris away from Mac Jones and it’s a completely different looking QB on stage last night.
