QB Quinn Ewers (transfer to Texas)

I almost feel bad for this kid and the insane expectations I believe our fanbase, and most of the nation will have on him. I hope we can all be patient enough to understand, he's most likely not the starter at OSU until 2023-2024, and that's IF he wins the job. And I also hope that there's patience when he finally sees the field, because it might not be pretty in his first actual live game reps. This year I believe was all about getting him acclimated to college, and also the speed and mental aspect of college football. I honestly never expect him to see the field this year as long as Stroud and McCord are healthy, and that's a good thing! Let him learn and soak up the knowledge. Who cares if he doesn't have his black stripe pulled until after the season, I'm sure he still gets lost going to class and calls his parents weekly because he's homesick.

I have to imagine number of reps could be an issue here too. That said, if I went into that environment skipping my senior year of HS, I would have a hard time adjusting. It can’t be easy and the fact that he even tried makes him far stronger than I was at that age.
Pretty sure before Jack got suspended his reps were basically nil and warming up. The mental reps would have to have been 100% all in for him and every rep perfect to remove that stripe before now. Also, probably a tester from Ryan Day to see where the kid stands. Can he take still having the stripe this long? How strong is he going to be against adversity? If Ewers buys in, he could end up another in the recent line of great ones. I hope he's kicking ass as a team mate right now when he can't contribute.

Having said all of that, wouldn't it be awesome to be kicking ttun's ass so bad that he got snaps up there next weekend?

No! That's my main point I was making against fans with this thought!
It wouldn't be awesome at all for him to see the field this year at all!. It'd be awesome if we were beating scUM so bad that McCord got in, and Ewers sat on the sideline with a clipboard taking mental reps and notes. It'd be awesome if he tears up leading the scout team this year and gets his black stripe removed by season's end. It'd be awesome if he got the playbook down better. It's like you're forgetting that he'd be in his 1st semester of his senior year of HS. I'd much rather see him get snaps when he better knows the playbook next year. I wouldn't want his first game reps in The Game, against an actual talented team. I'd much rather ease him in against Kent St, Toledo, Miami(OH), etc

Hard to believe reps are a major factor over the stripe. Kids have no control over a position being over recruited.

I always assumed it was a lot of weight room stuff, going to class, fitting into the team, mature conduct and such.

If we're 97% of the way to #Hang100, and McCord has already played the first 20 minutes of the 2nd half, and the tsun starters and 2nd team are on the sidelines in tears, I have no problem with him coming in with the walk-ons and putting tOSU over the top.

No, I'm not forgetting any of that. Experience in that place during that game, is unequivocal. He would still get to redshirt even if he played the entire game so the problems you're noting are trivial. If the coach thought he was ready for a series and we're crushing them like I expect, go for it

All of this and I think he and his family think so, too. Absolutely what I would’ve done. Have your kid make buck while learning in the Ohio State QB room instead of playing HS ball, even in TX? Fucks yeah. That’s what this was/is about, not pushing for him to play this year or next.

This 100%. I have no elusions that Quinn came here thinking he would play this year. Those delusions were elicited by certain segments of our fans after reading how talented he was (not really on here, but elsewhere). Quinn made a smart move and will get acclimated nicely this year to our playbook, all while making some NIL money. I view this as a very lucrative practice squad year for Quinn. Both sides win and after that, steel sharpens steel as they say...the rest will sort itself out.

Ewers made his first appearance yesterday for the Buckeyes. Will there be another one? Watching Stroud, still a freshman, play the last 2 weeks what are the chances Ewers can ever take the starting job from him? So Ewers does what, spend 2 more years as a back up?

At this point it seems likely that he ends up back in the state of Texas, where he would be a starter next season at just about any school there (if not all of them).

If he showed up in August expecting to significantly contribute, and transfers our after 3-4 months in the program, we're better off without him.

My opinion all year has been he sits behind Stroud next year, as he would have without reclassifing, and gets a shot at the job in 2023. If he loses the job then, he'll be gone.

He's a high school senior.

If he showed up in december August or January, that doesn't change. And he's on a team with three extremely green QBs.

If a guy did this next year, with a seasoned CJ, and probably not both of Kyle and Jack, that's a different conversation. He probably still plays sparingly, but the reps are very different.

In 2022, you'll be maintaining CJ and grooming his replacement, which might be Quinn.

There's no time during a 2021 NC run to be grooming the fourth qb on the roster.

Nothing Day does will change the two year wait. That was there before he enrolled. It's still there now.

CJ is uncatchable. He's too far behind the other two for backup reps.

He can take the world by storm this off-season once he gets his sea legs and push to be the heir.
