So much this. I walked away for a week due to getting too heated in the Day thread though I would occasionally open the forum out of habit. I was considering staying away longer until I saw this news this morning.

Kid did nothing to deserve the way he was talked about after the TCUN game other then not live up to impossibly high standards we as fans set.

Thanks for the memories Kyle and I wish you well.

Tristan Gebbia could win 10 or 11 games at Ohio State if he got a clean pocket every play. Big boy opponents aren't going to give you a clean pocket. Quarterbacks sometimes need to make a big play without the benefit of a clean pocket.... Holy Buckeye ... The Catch ... Troy Smith's Heisman moment against Penn State ... Cardale Jones trucking Landon Collins. Make a big play, or, like @osuvictory1 said, at least not make the game-losing play.

The second interception in the tCun game is on Kyle.

Seems like a great kid and I wish him the best. I wasn’t a fan of his on the field work to say the least, but would have liked to see him stay through spring practice to at least compete for the starting job to either 1) See if he could make the “Joe Burrow ,2nd year leap” or 2) push someone else to overtake him. While I’m disappointed that won’t happen, I’m optimistic we will have a better QB next year when The Game rolls around. I think Day missed on his evaluation of him which happens from time to time (we’ve been spoiled with QBs for the past decade by the way), as I just didn’t see progression and sound decision making from someone who has been here for three seasons.
But I’m confident that someone will step up out of the high 4 and 5 star QBs we have on the roster for next year, along with highly sought after transfer.

If we can’t figure it out with all of that, then maybe we do need to reassess Day’s reputation as a QB whisperer. He can’t miss twice in row….

Agree with everything, except the last sentence. The first interception was on Kyle, and it was just brutally bad. The second interception is on the interior line getting blown up into oblivion.

I seriously doubt that the "fanbase" has anything to do with this. We're just not that important.

If by chance his departure has anything to do with his twitter mentions, he might want to consider MAC schools, or maybe FCS.

Far more likely, it was that Day indicated that there would be an open competition and was likely looking toward the portal. If you can't handle competition, tOSU is definitely not the right place.

Not for nothing, i just looked at McCord's Twitter announcement through 100 or so replies. All of them were wishing him well, as are the vast majority of posts here.

Yeah.... I don't see it at all. First, Ewers got hurt, and Texas didn't even start him. Second, we have a fine young man from South Dakota who can probably do just as good or better. We also have a 5 star elite qb coming in. My guess it will be a one year option that has had some success, and meets the metrics Day is looking for. I would imagine he may already have somebody in mind.

Yet, I will say that if it's true that Kyle's pre-game speech during The Game was centered around, "Don't make mistakes. Don't make mistakes", then I can't help but believe that this will work out just fine with other players on the team for two reasons:
1) That is NOT the pre-game speech that one ever gives others. It's not conducive and provides absolutely nothing positive.
2) If that's going to be your pre-game speech, then recognize how big of a pitfall that is WHEN you do it to start the game.
I find myself wondering how much the rest of the offense considers/ed Kyle their best option, their leader on the field, and all that.

Good luck to Kyle. Playing QB for tOSU is a very demanding position, that attracts alot of heat-seeking missles. An anology, when Clyde Frazier played for the Knicks, everyone applauded the way he was so cool in the clutch moments. He set up the play, and it invariable went his way. When he was traded to the Cavs in the twilight of his career, he exhibited the same coolness, but when the results didn't go the winning way, he was trashed because he 'didn't care'. Apply this to McCord. He was always cool, but when he tossed an interception, he was derided. I thought he did the best he could. Maybe his attitude toward the game was wrong (a la the Buckeye faithful), but he was always even-keeled. And the Buckeye faithful (and from what I'm reading - Ryan Day), had problems with his attitude and performance. Well, wish you all the best Kyle, live long and prosper.

I have a strong feeling he was notified that tOSU, is in fact, looking to the portal for a QB and at a minimum it’d be an open competition this spring.

I don’t think the McCord’s liked that very much.

I have to say…..while there was improvement throughout the year, his footwork is not good at all….point blank. Coupled with his lack of athleticism, I just don’t see it….and I don’t think Day does either. It’d be one thing if his mechanics were the n the ballpark of CJ Stroud, but it’s not even close.

I wish him the best but am also fairly satisfied Day has handled this in a very direct manner and recognizes the issue at hand.
