QB Kyle McCord (transfer to Syracuse)

Same old story... it was great to see, but lets touch base in December. You can root for the team and be skeptical of the coaching.

Who said people can’t be skeptical of coaching? Where did you pluck that from?

When the team isn’t playing as well as people think they should, this board is very active with folks saying anything negative. Predicting 4 losses, calling for players to be benched, coaches fired, etc. We had people saying this could potentially be a shootout game, but after only giving up 10 points they’re nowhere to be found. We had people bitching because the coach said the team was going to take the next step at a pep rally lmao. Then after they appear to play better than the previous two games, there is no comment.

Being “skeptical of coaching” is not what I’m talking about. And if none of this matters until December, why even complain in the first place? Seems stupid, no?

Why is it ok to pass instant judgment if it's negative but only appropriate to "wait and see" if it's a positive?

This fanbase fucking sucks.
This board has always been different in that criticism, while allowed within board rules, has always been knowledgeable and legit. This year, it seems like a lot of comments are getting dangerously close to that "bashing" ban hammer and the board almost seems to be creeping in to Bucknuts or Facebook territory. I said it early in the game yesterday........it's getting toxic and a place that used to be great place to spend a game is getting to where it's just not fun anymore.

As someone who enjoys ripping people on Facebook and X/Twitter/Elon Musk's play toy, I'd say it still has quite a bit to go to get nearly that bad.

But yes, there has been a noticeable smidgen of a swing that direction this season. I think it's part oversaturation of exposure and part unrealistic expectations because of the former. It's always there, so it's always an expectation to be "perfect"....life isn't perfect and it's far too short to be this miserable for the 12 or 13 or 14 times you get to see them play football games.

So tell me again how all the whining about all the bitching is better?

Do the people that don’t bitch make the rest of us better for knowing them? Is it like a Tebow thing? Are you sent to help the rest of us be better fans or just self appointed to your own Concerned Citizens Brigade?

Also, what does any of this have to do with McCord?

I was going to write something more, but all I can say is I agree 100%.

Well let me get this thread back on the right track. HELL of a game by Kyle McCord, the subject of this thread. Good job kid.

While WKU isn't a great defense, I just look at the performance of an individual player on the field and he put the ball on the money on all but one or two plays. He had the offense in sync. He led and never looked worried. Can you say that McCord has the benefit of a great skill position group? Yeah, but so did Barrett, Haskins, Fields and Stroud.

Kyle is coming into his own. He's not going to be any of the QBs we've had in the past, but he doesn't have to be. He just needs to be the QB we watched yesterday and keep progressing within the system. With good protection and execution from who he is throwing to, he was basically perfect. Go beat the fucking Domers Kyle.

The popular phrase goes most teams rebuild; Ohio State reloads.
And we have had a remarkable run from Troy Smith to Stroud and from Will Smith to the Bosas and Chase, but maintaining that level is difficult. Not all five stars are equal or mesh with the rest of the team. Not all transitions are smooth or successful even when the talent coming in is comparable to the talent moving on.

The need to let Devin Brown show what he could do may have contributed with getting to the second quarter of game 3 before this offense began to jell.

The same may be true for Timaloua, Sawyer, and the rest of the defense to adjust to Knowles (and for Knowles and Johnson to get on the same page.)

Whatb I think I saw on offense and defense on Saturday was much different than what I saw on weeks 1 and 2. Comparing how the Bucks looked then with how 3 of our future opponents looked, made it seem to me that it was very possible that this team might not be ready by Saturday for ND at South Bend. I think the betting line reflects my thoughts - and it’s worth noting that the line went from ND - 3 last week to OSU - 3/3.5 following this weekend’s games.

Finally, the results of the past few years indicate that games with Penn State and Michigan are far from sure bets.

If that’s whining and bitching to some, so be it. To me it sounds like rational thinking

It's Yin/Yang brother. We have to balance each other like the wheel

Saturday had a lot to like, but I still think this team could lose three games or go undefeated.

History lesson for Buckeye fans (https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/coaches/woody-hayes-1.html). Here is the great Woody Hayes record at Ohio State. He lost 8 games in two years before the 1968 national championship. He got to #1 before that, then blew it by losing two games and finishing #9. All you heard was how he better win a national championship or "they need to throw him out". His quarterbacks and running backs could always "have had a much better game". Now, he is a hero. Back then, you'd think he was a chump the way "fans" talked about him.

You are living in the golden era of Ohio State football, which began in 2002 (https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/ohio-state/index.html). The success on the field has been unparalleled. 16 - 4 vs TSUN?

During that period, for the first time, Ohio State has consistently put one of the top three quarterbacks in America on the field. QB play in this era is unparalleled.

Kyle McCord broke through an artificial ceiling against WKU. He looked very good. His foot movement was much better. He stopped locking onto his receiver target. He got more comfortable in the pocket.

That said, he's played 40 less plays than the two QBR leaders and 20 less than the ND QB he meets this week, who is much more experienced.

But when Ohio State takes the field, they will do so with a starting QBR already in the top 10 nationally and virtually tied with the vaunted QB at Notre Dame.

I can see why people might disagree, but I'm voting on this kid to leave everything on the field and bring home a victory.
