QB Kyle McCord (transfer to Syracuse)

I'll just speculate that if Brown is named QB1, McCord will be gone. He has "sat" 2 years already waiting his turn, he'll be a Junior. I can't see him staying to be QB2 behind a Sophomore, etc.
I think that’s why getting the transfer at QB was so big. Regardless of who wins the QB battle, theres a veteran in the room

I don’t know why, if we can get OU Baker type of play I think that would be a win

Just him as a person I would think, I tried to make the comp strictly on attributes and game film, not his terrible insurance commercials and planting flags on our field for misunderstanding long-held traditions. The flag plant Nick Bosa put on him in SF was to this day one of my favorite NFL moments and I am not even a Niners fan. But I will take Baker's college production any day.

Oh that is for sure, if Brown wins the job McCord will not stay here and I would probably leave as well if I didn't get the job after Stroud leaves and a QB a class under me won the job. I was thinking of Brown staying if Kyle wins the job, he has plenty of time to develop and make a mark if Kyle wins the job. Plus he is a play away from being the guy in that event, I know OSU fans have beat that into the ground with 2014/15 season with Braxton, JT and Cardale. but it is dead accurate...we have been very fortunate with the health of Haskins, Fields and Stroud lately (part of that being the staff trying to make sure they don't get hurt). But as much as I love and I mean really love Kienholz's potential at QB, having him as the #2 option as a frosh would not be ideal.

College football's rising stars: 23 players to watch entering 2023 season

1. KYLE MCCORD, QB, OHIO STATE

Replacing C.J. Stroud, a two-time Heisman finalist, is no easy feat. McCord has just one start to his name, which came two years ago in a 59-7 win against Akron. To expect a seamless transition would be putting a lot on him, but he is stepping into one of the most important quarterback jobs in football. With the likes of Ryan Day and Brian Hartline guiding him, and Marvin Harrison, Emeka Egbuka and Julian Fleming to throw the ball to, McCord should be just alright. In fact, there is a good chance he puts up some pretty absurd numbers.

Also: 12. Jayden Ballard, WR, Ohio State

I wouldn't take much, if anything, away.

Yeah, the Spring Game doesn't always represent a QB's true potential:

Georgia Bulldogs transfer Justin Fields completed four of his 13 throws for 131 yards and a touchdown. (and most of the 131 yards was just on 1 pass play). Although Fields didn't put together his best overall performance, he was involved in the day's most memorable a play—a 98-yard pitch-and-catch with wide receiver Binjimen Victor for a touchdown.

I tried to stop putting much stock in spring game performances around the Bam Childress years.

TBH, I tried to comfort myself with those statistics. Felt fine until I realized how many practices JF had in the program before the spring game…

None of this means anything until they play real games.

Bobby Carpenter said on The Podcast today that when he first showed up, Fields was spraying passes all over and missing wide open receivers against air.

If there's one position I expect they'll work out, it's QB. And WR

What I liked was how Kyle was placing the ball. Without looking and researching, I dont recall a pass where he really blew it. He was absolutely perfect on his swing pass which a lot of guys screw up. He also hung in there till the last second and completed that deep over to Marv with JT beating down on him.

His reading will get better with more live reps and if the line improves how I think we will, he'll be more than OK in games.
