Has Herbie had enough of Columbus? Dave Biddle's Twitter

Why does the phrase "addition by subtraction" come to mind upon reading this?

I've been waiting to hear what Herbie has to say about this whole situation. A part of me really really wants to see him stand by the university and coach (but not as a blind homer, cause obviously we did wrong here), but another part of me thinks he is going to come out guns blazin' firing away at the program and Tressel and just pile it on like everyone else in the media.

I heard him interviewed yesterday. He was not supportive but neither was he allowing himself to be drawn into this. He was very subdued.

Whomever was interviewing him kept saying things like, "Surely, you must agree that [insert the various Ohio State is the devil allegation]" and Herbstreit only answered by saying, "Well, that's your opinion."

I think that Herbie understands his standing right now with Ohio State fans.

I think the Ohio State fans who continually gripe about Herbstreit - which isn't everybody - overestimate their standing with Herbstreit. He works for a national network, and unlike a lot of the fans who complain about him all the time, he actually went to the school. He has little reason to weigh every word with the subset of OSU fans who will go apeshit over them constantly in mind.

People expect him to be a cheerleader for Ohio State. When that doesn't happen, he's an "OSU basher".

When he makes comments on local radio stations regarding the Buckeyes, he isn't reading a script and I'd be surprised if he was carrying out some ESPN agenda like he has to on ESPN's College Gameday. I dislike him for his various comments he's made recently. I leave it at that. Rarely do I complain because quite frankly, it's not that big of a deal to me. But I can see how others would feel compelled to complain.
