QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

I look at it like this... his sayings are awesome to make fun of because they're so common but let's be honest there's not much to really be fresh about when you've been doing it for 20 years.

However you can always be harder on your own child then you can be with someone elses. Sure he was hard on us back when the scandal hit and he sometimes doesn't give us any token points which you think he would since he was a captain here. That's not his job and I for one like herbie because when the chips are down he normally picks us and does supports us.

He's not the voice of the Buckeyes he is a voice of college football. For God sakes he just picked us into the playoffs with the most unproven team in college football. I do think some of us are too hard on him for sure

I will never understand the hate that Herbstreit generates on this site. First and foremost: The guy DOES NOT work for Ohio State. His paychecks do not come from Ohio State. He can't go on ESPN and make like he's voice of Ohio State football. His job is report on all college football and to try and be as unbiased as he possibly can.

You want that biased, my team, kinda crap? Give a listen to Dan Fouts calling the 2003 Fiesta Bowl and listen to what bias sounds like.

Further more, Kirk has been generous to Ohio State with his money.

Finally, the guy just lost his father. He gets my sympathy on this day.
No, I don't.

I want him to not make emotional, ridiculous statements and if he does, I expect him to man up and own them.

I want him to not smear and falsely implicate Michael Brewster on national television, and since he did do something that terrible, I want him to apologize for it considering how wildly he apologized for doubting Matt McGloin.

Very sorry to hear about his father. That's very sad but not really relevant to this topic. It simply means it probably shouldn't be discussed today.

He wrongfully called out Ohio State players during tatgat to prove to his ESPN overlords he still had OSU connections and never apologized.

He went out of his way to criticize Tressel's offense (would never send his son to play QB for Tressel, I believe).

He goes out of his way to be critical of Ohio (technicolor out in Southern Cal or whatever).

He's an over sensitive twat (in the British sense of the word) on Twitter who often overreacts and gets into pissing matches like an amateur.

Related to being an over sensitive twat, he moved to Tennessee because people in Ohio were mean to him... according to him.

Bottom line, he's a douchebag who wants to be a Buckeye when it's convenient and is ESPN's bitch the rest of the time.

I don't recall any other OSU personalities having similar issues with the fanbase being critical of them. It's not us, it's Herbstreit.

That's not entirely fair. He's an over sensitive twat in the American sense, too.

A common (incorrect) theme for people who refuse to understand why people don't like Herbie is that we want him to be some kind of homer. The bolded is a homer statement....not anything you hear from his critics.

His dad was not a fake ass buckeye, fake as hell, so I won't ever disparage him, not that I had reason to outside of him raising a dipshit, but his father died 5 months ago. I thought it pretty cool that this thread dropped and Herbie had plenty of time to mourn, as did anyone who still likes him.

But it’s CFB season once again and Herbie is back to his old tricks so fuck him in the nostril.

Oh, and the whole "I was sleepy when I voted" poll thing.

Regarding this new amazing chapter in Herbstreit's love for Ohio State, I'm fairly certain he's going to use that as a hedge when he bows to his ESPN masters and trashes the B1G all season.

Something along the lines of "now everyone knows I had Ohio State in the playoffs, so when I say the B1G sucks and we are looking at 4 SEC teams instead, you know it must be true!"

If it was all about blind-homerism Spielman would be hated too as @Bucklion has stated. It's about the other stuff as several other posters have talked about. Now, I am not a Herbie hater to the degree that others are and generally like having a 'Buckeye' on national TV weekly. But I understand where the disdain for him has come from.

If this was about hating people who weren't homers on TV, everyone here would hate Spielman too, who is usually very neutral, complementary of lots of teams, etc. It goes way deeper than that, and Ken Dolls apologists damn well know it.
This is the perfect example. One of the greatest Buckeyes of all time. Calls the game as he knows it with great technical acumen, enthusiasm and yet does it without being a corporate shill or cheerleader.
