QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, Brain with a Lunatic Fringe)

Did anybody hear, long after the game was over and they were cleaning the confetti off the field...during the SVP, Tebow, Herbie segment...I think it was SVP who said the people of Columbus can be proud or something like that. Herbie said "we are" as they went to break.

 you clown. I'm more of a resident of Columbus, and I've never lived outside of Pennsylvania.

Well, part of the year anyway. :sarcastic:

He was so insufferable during the broadcast last night, I nearly muted the TV. The whole "Can Mariotta's parents clue the rest of us in that are trying to be parents as to what they did" schtick was just as vomit-inducing as Gary Danielson's famous "Tebow should be off making some people's lives better" quip on CBS that one year. That and the "Mariotta is my favorite player I've ever covered" right as OSU was going to celebrate the win. Whatever. He'll be an OSU homer now that they've won so he can whine on twitter next year. Doucherocket.

I watched the whole damn thing muted

Can't even stand to hear his voice

Which begs the question...how badly did he butcher the face guarding/PI call?

That and the downing of the punt near the goal line in college football are the two rules of the game that annually mystify he of the extra white teeth.

Really enjoying the wisdom of Kirk Herbstreit last night:

1st half:

Oregon putting Ohio State under pressure early...

  • "This [Oregon] defense is built to stop the run." Uh, no.
  • "Turnovers and who scores in the redzone, that's what will determine who wins this game." Uh, turnovers? No.

After Marshall gets the 4th and 2 but before the ref decision, on the replay...

  • "Watch how quick Oregon's defense is..." Uh, no.

Ezekiel Elliot scores first TD:

  • (Crickets until after PAT, then). "Boy, did Ohio State need an answer to the Oregon's TD."

When Jones ducks a sack and runs for a gain on last OSU drive of the half...

  • "He didn't recognize the blitz but his size helped him avoid the sack." Uh, no, it was his speed. Say it.

Out of charity to a former Ohio State player, I will not continue.

Yes, there was some real insightful analysis coming out of the bronze one....too many to eat up the bites of the BP servers....

Didn't realize the vitriol for Herbie from Buckeye fans. I think he's solid and truly does want the Bucks to win, but tries too hard to appear unbiased at times. It's a tough line to toe.

He's no Spielman, but he's still a Buckeye

His commentary is all cliche. His antics go beyond just trying to toe a line. He's a Buckeye fan when it suits him and he's a fan of whoever else is popular when it suits him as well.

Being a Buckeye fan isn't a requirement (obviously), but he tries to act like one until he doesn't, which is a problem.

he's a fan of himself and will do whatever is necessary to keep himself relevant and popular with the uninformed masses that watch the drivel coming from Bristol.... he's a glory hound.
