QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, Brain with a Lunatic Fringe)

If I felt that his protestations in recent years were fair and balanced, I would have no problem.

If that were the case, of course, we would have heard a lot more righteous indignation about the player autographed goods for sale in the SEC and ACC this year.

Bingo. I listened to him on the radio in each of the past two years talk about how he isn't one of those guys who rushes to judgment when he doesn't know all of the facts, and so he was reluctant to say anything really negative against Manziel or Jameis. Yet this is the same guy who was more than willing to toss around rumors, speculation and judgment when it came to Tat Gate.

The weird thing about Herbsreit is that whoever people are rooting for, they always feel like he is against them. Every Buckeye fan thinks he is an SEC taint licker, but SEC people (and pretty much every other fanbase) think he is a big OSU homer, who singlehandedly kicked TCU out of the playoff. When the Rose Bowl was on, I kept reading on here how he was about to cry because FSU was going to lose, but it sounded to me when I was watching the actual game, like he couldn't wait to run down to the field and let Mariota have his way with him.

the motherfucker dropped OSU in his AP poll after they BEAT a ZOMG SEC!!! team in the Sugar Bowl.

Tough to interpret that as being an OSU homer

That's because everyone (correctly) interprets his praise as facetious and short-lived.
They just (incorrectly) assume it's not facetious for others.

Said Mariota "smelled blood in the water better than any QB he's ever seen"

I'm just wondering how Mariota will react when he realizes it's HIS blood he's smelling.

Mariota played *gasp* badly in the first half of the Rose Bowl. He wasn't accurate, missing several wide open receivers while throwing 1 interception and a pass that hit a defender right in the hands (across the middle late) that was dropped.

He runs the read option (along with all the other crazy reads in that play book) extremely well and has a lot of opportunities to hit wide open receivers thanks to their innovative play calling, but he was begging for a team to put their foot on Oregon's neck in the first half of the Rose Bowl and FSU just couldn't do it- but did manage to keep it close after scoring zero touchdowns in the red zone on their first three drives.

Oregon took advantage of five turnovers in the second half perfectly, but at some point very early on in that stretch FSU gave up completely.

Mariota is an extremely good college QB, but he is far from perfect and I think a quality defense playing at a high level can force him into some mistakes doing all of the fancy stuff they do- especially if you keep the ball out of his hands and force him to play from behind.

At the end if the day, I personally do not see him succeeding in the NFL- but then again most QBs don't so that's probably the safe bet.

Also, I'm not sure vanilla tips tanning bed hand cream Herbie is the greatest judge of killer instinct on a football field or anywhere else.

Yeah, I know. I haven't really paid much attention to him since around 2003 or so, when I stopped having the time to watch Gameday, even when it was still kind of decent. I guess i just find it mildly amusing that everyone thinks he hates their team/conference.

I think I am the last to figure this out, but Herbie WILL be one of the ESPN broadcasters calling the game. Why? I have no idea.

But now, my imagination runs wild. If Oregon were to win, it is going to be mighty painful listing to Herbie slobber.

But suppose tOSU wins? What then? Does Herbie begin groveling to B1G? Or do we hear about SEC and PAC-10 injuries? Or how bad the refs are? I am just having trouble visualizing this.

Which is why I set my DVR up to record the Film Session version before I left home. I'm pretty sure Spielman is in that group.

Spiels is on ESPN2, I don't even plan to watch the cliche group.

Yep. God help Oregon if we happen to get a turnover or two in the first half and jump out to a 2+ TD lead. If that happens, what the Bucks defense will do is personify the very definition of "blood in the water"...
