QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, Brain with a Lunatic Fringe)

Joe, a note of warning: many on this site consider Herby a turncoat because he doesn't slobber all over the Buckeyes on ESPN.
No, people have a problem with herbie because he says idiotic things to make a point like

- he would never send his son to play for Tressel if he were an offensive recruit. I sincerely doubt Urban comes close to the NFL talent that JT churned out.
- X set the conference back 10 years (let me know when he says that about the SEC, or just the mississippis)
- slandering Michael Brewster for his role in Tatgate on national TV and NEVER apologizing (the same year he bent over backwards to kiss Mr. Moxy's feet after calling him a handoff QB)
- moving OSU down in the polls after a win in the sugar bowl, which he laughably claimed was a mistake from being sleepy (His pal Davis also moved OSU down)
- Feuding like a 5 year old with Terrelle Pryor in every medium

The list goes on

Or you could keep making it us unable to take criticism, when he has proven incapable of taking it himself.
I notice that FSU seems to be the only team in the tourney where youth wasn't mentioned. The days of "a senior laden team" seem to be over. Attrition of those 4* and 5* athletes who turn out to be 1* and 2*, those who are encouraged to move on and free up a scholarship and those who leave for the NFL puts more and more of the game into the hands of frosh and sophomores.
Sparty had one. They were not allowed to destroy Mr. Crab Legs because of a preseason and conference bias. They weren't even allowed into the top-10 until the very end, and would have been dropped into the teens/twenties had Heuerman picked up that block in Indy.

Jwins, You obviously follow Herby's record closer than I do. I'll just say that I've also heard him say many positive things about OSU and more importantly he's been a substantial donor to the school.

Frankly I can't say I disagree with point one. Woody had trouble recruiting QB's for much the same reason as Tressel, going from a good passer in John Borton in his first year to game managers until he got to Rex Kern, Corny Green and Art Schleichter. Even when he had a good passer, Tom Matte and Don Unverfurth come to mind, he preferred to play the running game. He much preferred someone who could run the option (double, not triple) and manage the game. In his own words, "Three things can happen when you pass and two of them are bad."

Jesus guys. How about we not take this thread and turn it into a Herbie argument. I think there is another thread for this.

Also, comparing our defense now to 2009 is silly too. How about we compare our defense to Arizona and Florida State. And compare their's to Alabama and Wisconsin. That's more productive, I think.

I would like to know more about what has made Oregon so successful this year, and what defenses they've done it against. Also...is Mariota the fastest QB we've played this year?

Of course he has, but you don't get to side step nonsense like that.

None of which has any relevance to Tressel, who he felt compelled to lambast on national TV, where countless youngsters and fans watch for their only source of sports "reporting." Meanwhile JT churned out Smith, Pryor, Clarett*, Pittman, Beanie, Herron, Saine, Jenkins, Carter, Holmes, Ginn, Gonzalez, Hartline, Robiskie, Sanzenbacher, Carter*, Posey, Hartsock, Ballard among others. Urban will have a tall order matching that list.

Like I said in a different post, let me know the next time Herbie trashes LSU for horrendous QB development and says he would never send a QB there. He shouldn't, because that's juvenile trolling and beneath his position as the face of college football, but he chose to do that to his alma mater because hyperbole is one of his occasional calling cards.

Good call. Do you mind posting this over there again with the relevant question?

Whatever. Just because I find rolling hills, historic small town main streets and fall foliage more beautiful than mountains doesn't make my opinion invalid or slightly comparable to thinking a fat chick is hotter than the Song Girls.

I've been in 42 of the fifty states. Seen both oceans, the gulf of Mexico and the Grand Canyon. All were special in their own right. But the rolling foothills of Appalachia and the Ohio Autumns are home and to me, the most beautiful places on Earth.

They're not even real mountains. Glorified hills.
LA on the whole is not very attractive imo.
And I've often wished the next earthquake in SoCal sucks their god-awful airport into an abyss never to be seen again.
There's a few places I'd prefer to live over Cleveland area -- LA is not one of them, and still none of them would drive me to bash Ohio. Let alone bash it on national television.

Comparing Ohio to black/white and California to Technicolor or whatever it was... give me a break.

When 42 out of 43 ESPiN staffers pick against OSU, what else could Herbie do? Pretty bad when a former Buckeye throws in with a certain Pitt alum.

On an unrelated note...Other than saving me an In and Out burger, the whole state of Californication can slide off into the Pacific.

GO BUCKS!!!

That was bad... and shitty of him to do... I grew up in Alabama, for whatever people want to bash on it for, I still say I'm from Alabama, I will make fun of it but never bash it...

All I can say is he has major insecurities given the long list of stupid things he's said... would love to hear a psychologist analyze him.
