QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, Brain with a Lunatic Fringe)

What is the one question you have never asked your partner that you would like to right now?
BM: If Kirk didn't go to Ohio State, where would he have gone?
KH: Michigan, out of respect for Bo Schembechler, who my dad coached with at Ohio State and Miami of Ohio. And I loved Jim Harbaugh's style of play.

Good answer, imo.

Chastened, wizened and humbled? We talked to a number of players that were at a mid-week meeting, featuring ESPN?s Kirk Herbstreit addressing the team. He was invited in by JT to give his perspective on the intense media pressure that the 2010 Buckeyes can expect and how they should react. As he got more impassioned about the team, Kirk broke down and started to cry, ?confessing? how much he loved the Buckeyes and actually apologizing if he has seemed to come off with less than appropriate love on TV. He was struggling so mightily that Tressel actually came up and gave him a reassuring hug.

What did the players think of this turn? Devon Torrence said, ?It was very cool, man. Because just to have somebody in his position come out here and talk to us and talk about his passion for being at Ohio State and playing here, it was really cool and I got a lot out of it. Seeing that man ? it shows how much Ohio State means to Herbstreit.

Sounds like he is trying to tell everyone that ESPN pretty much tells him what to say and what not to say...

I've never had any doubts about Herbie's love for Ohio State and Ohio itself, and understand that it's his job to try and be objective and not sound like a homer.

The guy is far from perfect, but he's a Buckeye and he bleeds Scarlet & Gray. Perhaps he overdoes it in order to seem unbiased, but he's human. The thing I find interesting is that I've had discussions with several people who claim to be insiders who claim that JT doesn't like him. Yet JT takes several opportunities to have Kirk "in-house". Seems like JT is OK with Kirk.

I've never doubted Herbie's love for OSU. Anyone that has needs simply to look at this picture of him and Eddie from the '03 Title Game.

I wonder what he looked like while the Florida, LSU, or USC games were going on. I think that Speilman does an awesome job at being objective while remaining an unabashed fan of his alma mater (in good times and bad). Herby? Not so much. I believe him when he says he loves OSU but his image has been tarnished the last few years in my eyes. The show of emotion and his words to the players/coaches was pretty cool though.

Love for OSU? He's happily cheering as an OSU player gets tackled. He obviously hates us.

I know you know what I know that you know...but I'm gonna take it as the need to supplant some background info on that play for those who don't have every play of that game forever etched in their mind.

Pretty much our #2 (Mike Doss) intercepted a pass from their overrated #7 (Ken limparm Dorsey), while their pimp facemask having #2 (McGahee - pre getting destroyed) runs back and makes the tackle.

I've always liked Kirk's approach to commentating.

Unfortunately he's always seemed to disguise his tOSU loyalty by overcompensating in his analysis. If you pay close enough attention to him at times, however, you can definitely tell that he bleeds Scarlet & Gray. It's pretty cool to hear that he still gets choked up about his passion for the Buckeyes.

And that picture is mightily epic. Herby, Eddie and the Senator (pre-vest).

Good stuff indeed.
