QB Kirk ‘Nightmare On’ Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, Afraid of THE Lunatic Fringe)

A real demonstration of a hard hitting interview, there Hooley.

:shake:

Basically, he says he was tired because he's so busy that night (when votes were due). He doesn't look at records. OU was an "eye test" thing. He "knew" Ohio State lost to Wisconsin, so Wiscy had to be above Ohio State. But, then in the next breath, he doesn't play the "well this team beat that team, who beat that team, who lost to this team" game. Then he went on to play the victim card.. his kids are brainwashed Buckeye fans. his wife is a former cheerleader. He was a Captain. His dad was a captain. He'd love to put OSU at 2 .... or as high as he can.

Umm.... Herbie... you could have put OSU at 1 if you wanted to.

I refuse to listen to anything "Fire Starter" has to say (even on broadcasts), but it's funny that his ranking was the same as Chris Fowler's (half-asleep must be contagious).

I always compare "Fire Starter" to Jay Bilas in a sense. Bilas seems to have informed views, doesn't rely on cliches, and doesn't seem to outwardly try to disassociate himself with his alma mater in Duke.

But Jay Bilas was a former coach and current attorney.

Herbie frosts his hair and tans.

His excuses are like those of people caught being racist (I have African-American friends).

He says he didn't have a copy of his final ballot for the regular season. He said that he never ranks teams based on their record. Said that he had to submit his ballot immediately after 2 hours of pregame for the NC, the NC, then 2 hours of postgame for the NC. He said he was not mentally prepared to be putting together his ballot at that time.

Said that he put the top four in, then thought about the next few. Rationalized putting Wisconsin ahead of us because they beat us. Said that he then thought about how the Big Ten did in the bowl games and put us at 9 because ''what had they done.''

He then complained about the fans that are mad at him, mentioned the Alamo Bowl coverage, but was pretty much mumbling / imitating ''whiny'' fans. Said he's all Buckeye. Also pimped the basketball team.

IMO, his logic is flawed. Once teams no longer have the same record then head to head is out the window.

That was my favorite part of what he had to say (and, lest there be any confusion about what I mean, by "my favorite" I mean "most ridiculous"). This guy gets into a war of words with the 19 year old starting QB at his alma mater, indefensibly ranks his alma mater lower than any other AP voter, etc., and we're supposed to feel sorry for him? GMAFB.
