QB Kirk ‘Nightmare On’ Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, Afraid of THE Lunatic Fringe)

The upside is that when he's on the wives don't mind 12 hours of non-stop college football.

The down side is our wives would leave us for hm in a fraction of a nano-second.

:oh:

Man, isn't that the truth. Having said that, it's amazing to look at the early years of the show versus today. Herbie has put on a few LBs over the past few yrs.

Best Student Sections
1. Penn State -- If you haven't been to Happy Valley in the fall, you're missing out on one of the great happenings in all of sports. Quite simply the loudest, most supportive student section in college football.
2. Florida -- Still the loudest place to watch a college football game for four quarters. With Tim Tebow chasing a second Heisman and the Gators chasing a national title, I wouldn't want to be a visiting team at the Swamp in 2008.
3. LSU
-- Typically, in most stadiums, the student section challenges the rest of the stadium to cheer at a certain level. At Tiger Stadium, that has never been the case. The everyday fans are just as crazy as the students, and because of that, the LSU student body has never been mentioned in the Herbies. But after two trips last year and seeing them a third time in the title game, this student section doesn't have to take a backseat to anybody.
4. Ohio State
-- Over the past five years, the Buckeyes' home field has proved to be one of the toughest places to play in the country. New student seating configuration with 15,000 students at each end zone will create an even more hostile environment at the Shoe.
5. Oregon -- It looks like "GameDay" answered my call last year as we visited Eugene twice. And my memories were substantiated and then some. The place is louder and nastier than I remember it. Good luck winning there.

I just included any category that had a Buckeye player. No clue how he's putting JL at the #2 ILB spot, nor our defense at #4.

He put Rainey in one of those categories, too. Rainey has a grand total of 10 yards from scrimmage on 1 carry, 1 punt return for 22 yards, and 1 kick return for 39 yards. I'm not saying he hasn't looked great in spring ball or that he won't be a great player, but rather that it seems like Herbie is basing some of those picks on potential rather than what they've done already.

Considering it was called the next wave, it is most likely guys he thinks will bust out and do big things this year.

Herbstreit puts aside Buckeye pride
By Michael Hiestand, USA TODAY

Every TV game analyst on college football was a college player or coach ? it's a job requirement. And a reason for zealous fans to suspect their on-air objectivity, especially when their alma maters are involved.

Kirk Herbstreit, who'll be the ABC analyst when Ohio State meets Southern California on college football's first Game of the Century so far this season, knows all about this: "You could say 100 things positive about a fan's team and the first time you say something they view as not being fair, you're dead to them."

And, he notes, there's a certain logic to being hypersensitive when factors such as polls ? not straightforward playoffs ? help determine the sport's champion: "It's a subjective system, so opinions go a long way."

Herbstreit, however, is an Ohio State co-captain and MVP in 1992, the son of an Ohio State co-captain, and his wife Allison is an ex-Buckeyes cheerleader. Their four sons will be at Saturday's game in full team regalia.

"But I'm paid to have an objective viewpoint," he says. "I work so hard, I work so hard during games that I don't have a rooting interest."

MEDIA: ESPN's Herbstreit not a homer -- and Buckeyes fans don't like it
By Tom Hoffarth, media columnist
Article Last Updated: 09/12/2008

Check out the new promo for ESPN's "College GameDay," in which studio analyst Kirk Herbstreit, sitting in the talent bus going over his prep work, hears his cell phone go off, looks at the caller ID, and ignores it.

Chris Fowler asks him whom he's ducking.

Herbstreit admits it's USC coach Pete Carroll - who, as the camera pulls back, is in the bus doorway, looking straight at Herbstreit, somewhat perturbed.

"Hey, dude, you can't take my calls?" Carroll asks.

Herbstreit fumbles for an excuse.

"Coach, it's the bus, sometimes we get really bad reception," he says - just as his phone goes off again, and Lee Corso gets this horribly pained look on his face.

Surely, the fans of Ohio State can get a laugh out of that. Right?

Watching this guy on Gameday pisses me off. I'm all fine with not being a homer but its like he goes out of his way to take a shot at tOSU every time.

For instance Corso was talking about how fast Pryor looked on a running play and he came across with a snide "Yeah against Minnesota".....He does this all the time. Fuck you Kirk. I think MoC is a better representative of tOSU because at least he could play good football.

Yeah, a psychotic, troubled, convicted armed robber is a better representative of the university than a nationally-respected sports analyst. :roll1:

It's OK to be a little bitter because he may go out of his way to not appear biased, but don't be stupid about it...

I don't agree with your Mo C comment, but completely agree that as of late, Herbie goes out of his way to ding tOSU. He purposefully makes snide comments, and then wonders why so many tOSU fans no longer like him.

I used to be a big Herbie fan, but no longer. Not when an alumni purposefully disrespects his team on national TV like he does.
