Ohio State football: Humble arrival serves as motivator

The Columbus Dispatch
Kenny Guiton tries not to dwell on his former status as an afterthought.
That he was the last member of Ohio State?s 2009 recruiting class, offered a scholarship only because others turned down the Buckeyes, is irrelevant now.
The redshirt sophomore is one of four quarterbacks competing for the starting quarterback job opened by Terrelle Pryor?s early departure.
?It motivates me every day,? Guiton said yesterday after Ohio State?s second preseason practice. ?I try not to think about it, but it?s always in the back of your head. I was the last recruit to come in. I got recruited two weeks before signing day. People kind of didn?t expect me in this situation, so now I just have to prove myself and prove (to others) I can do the things to be a starter.?
Guiton spent much of the offseason corralling receivers to work out.
?Just always throwing,? he said of his routine. ?Throwing all the time with my receivers. Getting my timing down. Throwing into nets. Doing as many drills as you could do.?
The workouts took on more urgency when Pryor announced his departure in June.
?I?m real good friends with Terrelle,? Guiton said. ?I did call him and wish him the best. At the same time, I was happy knowing I had a shot to play this year.
?It?s a blessing to have seen the mistakes TP made, and the good things he did ? on and off the field. I?m learning from that. I?m learning from the everyday things I see the quarterbacks do and I do.?

You can absolutely count that against him. I don't know why they call rollout plays with Bauserman. 99% of the time he's going to slowly glide to the sideline and just heave it out of bounds. You're telling me nobody is open every time he does that?In Bauserman's defense, we didn't really see what he can do. He threw away at least half of those. Can't really count those against him when talking about accuracy. He was aiming for out of bounds :tongue2:
