QB Justin Zwick (B1G Champion, National Champion)

Zwick's block on Ginn's scramble gets my vote for the "Jack Tatum Hit Of The Game." That was a helluva block. Damn. Tom Jackson should give that DE a "Jacked Up" prop on MNF even.

I never thought I'd jump out of my seat and scream louder for a block in my life, especially from our gimply 2nd-string QB playing on one hamstring.

Phenomonal performance by JZ. Very gutsy and he was more accurate than he had been. Some of that "wobble" may have come from throwing on a gimpy leg.

I was pleased with the way he was looking off receivers and using the pump fake. Many of you complained earlier in the year that he'd lock on to one guy (Holmes) and it was very obvious. That was not the case tonight.

He really showed tonight that it wasn't him that was the problem in the first few games. I think either of these QBs will be excellent running the team next year, but you have to think with Zwick's ability to "stay clean," that's a big thing going for him right now.

Yeah I agree the one thing that Zwick definatly has going for him is that he's always going to stay clean. I hope the kid the best, because he'll need it trying to get Troy off the top. Well that is unless Troy doesn't do himself in here.

What Zwick did tonight was impressive none the less. He wasn't spectacular, but he took what was given to him. Another thing that I thought of was that I think Zwick probably won't be the Qb next year because Zwick doens't throw the ball away. It seems Zwick still forces the ball into the recievers. Now yes he didn't make any INT's, but a bounce the wrong way and the other team has the ball. I think it comes down to really who plays smartest, and I have to believe thats still troy. Not to mention smiths scrambling ability. I'm glad that Zwick is back in the race tho.

'Smarts' is the last place I'd give Troy the edge. Almost everywhere else, but not there. If for no other reason than the level of sheer stupidity involved with his recent blunder.

The Spring should be interesting. I lean toward the school of thought that Smith is the forerunner. Recent idiocy aside, he owned the Michigan game. If he can come back with that level of play, and not the level in the games leading up to that point, then it would take a spectacular effort on Zwick or Boeckman's part to take the top seat away. Troy has the goods, no question there. I hope all 3 of them have brilliant Springs, and make it hard as hell for Tressel to decide who starts. But I also hope that once one is named, he commands the position all year.

Who cares though. I think we could get away with a Trent Dilfer type next year. Just don't lose us any games. The rest of the team is just too crazy-talented. Who the QB is, I think, is a far-less important discussion than it was this time last year.

And of course I can't discuss this issue without stating the obvious.

BE EASY!

Holy shit man!!! Zwick lit #97 up. #97s weigh a lot too. He got lit the fuck up.

I was always in the Smith camp, dating back to before the season began, but this is Zwick's team now. It's his starting job, and his alone to lose. The QB must rise above off-the-field bullshit.

Clarity, I have to disagree, for the same reason that Smith didn't come out the forerunner this year following the spring game. It doesn't matter what all of us think of his scrambling ability and improvisation: Tressel will not allow his QBs to do that in the spring game. The same reason Smith complained about being handcuffed at the beginning of this season is the same reason he'll be sitting on the bench next season.

I don't think Tressel cares 100% about physical ability. He places a high priority on off-field mistakes. You need not look any further than Krenzel v. McMullen to see that the more athletically gifted QB doesn't always win under Tressel's system.

Oh, we all know I'm pulling for Zwick. I'm just hedging my comments lest I get accused of wearing a white sheet.

Joking aside, it really all hinges (I think) on what Smith's actual suspension is (has that been decided?) and how he handles the whole thing. I have to admit that part of me doesn't want him back at all, despite the Michigan fireworks. His gaffe couldn't have come at a worse time, when it happened and how it happened did more damage to our reputation nationally than ALL of the MoC nonsense combined. --IMO--

I just want to be fair, and say that in as much as Smith had one great game against Michigan, and in as much that Zwick was serviceable but not spectacular in the bowl, and in as much as Boeckman appears to be a factor in the race -- that we look to have a fun race, er, contest(!) in the Spring.

I really don't care who is leading now, or who owns the Spring. I'd like to see them all push one another hard. With Holmes, Ginn, Gonzo, Hamby and Nicol catching balls, we could send JT himself out to pass the ball and still put up solid numbers IMO.

Even tho I was jumped on for saying it, I knew he would play as he did. No matter what happens in the spring/summer practices, he's still my choice at QB next year for the Buckeyes. Just as Scott was. Troy would replace Bam in the offense, and possibly Holmes on special teams.

I'm not sure who you mean there RAM, but I will say that I've always felt that of the QBs, Zwick probably has the most room to grow. The flip side of that is that as well as Smith played against Michigan, he wouldn't need to grow much if he could maintain that level of play. Although that's a touch unrealistic.

I may well have been overcompensating in my posts, trying to mask my absolute contempt for what Smith just did to the program off the field, but trying to be more positive about his future prospects based on his Michigan performance. Can't really say.

Either way though, seems far too early (for me personally) to do much more than talk in "what if's" about the QB battle next year.

I agree, Smith should be benched indefinately, if not cut altogether. That a player would commit such a wreckless, selfish act given all the scrutiny that the program was under even in the spring (before the ESPN/Clarett story ran two months ago) is inexcuseable. Smith should be made an example of.

However, I think that Zwick was more than "serviceable" in the Alamo Bowl. He pulled up lame three plays in, still managed to throw tighter spirals than he threw at any other point in the season, found the open receivers, and directed a potent offense all on one hamstring. The most unspectacular thing he did was throw when he should've tucked and run on the play where he hurt himself.

My 'serviceable' comment doesn't mean to speak to the things he did, as much as it did the overall performance, including the impact of his bad leg. He looked *vastly* improved from the last time we saw him. I am, indeed, impressed with Zwick. I felt like the fans as a whole turned on him too quickly earlier in the season, and that he took more lumps than he earned for the struggles of the team.

Lol, everyone just needs to understand that the last time I discussed the Zwick vs. Smith issue, someone was trying to drag it (and me) down into a perverse racially charged ugly mess. So I find myself treading carefully around the issue.

DAMN YOU JIMMY!

Sorry, now I'm just entertaining myself.
