QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

To be fair UC and Indiana do have fairly OK defenses... he hasn't been playing total trash.

MSU will be a bigger challenge though no doubt.
Difference I see between this offense and previous Urban offenses, is that this offense is making defenses that would've given the Buckeyes fits (Indiana's given our offense trouble damn near every year) look like lower MAC schools. It looks EASY. Buckeyes would've dropped 50 on UC if not for all the drive killing penalties in the 1st quarters. Let's also not forget that Day is basically calling off the dogs in the 4th, and sometimes 3rd, quarters. Previous years starters would be playing well into the 4th if not outright finishing games.

Seems like adding under the center formations, his ability to disguise the same plays in different formations, and his passing acumen make it much harder to anticipate what will happen, even if much of the offense is similar to years past in terms of plays used.

Also helps that the OL is flat out dominating. Makes everyone look great.

Yeah OL play does seem strong. And I really like seeing some under center. Doing it somewhat routinely will also make those 3rd/4th down and short plays a better percentage play.

I thought Ryan would be a better game planner and I think that's showing.

Ryan is very good at knowing how to hit a defense and knowing the counter moves to what they'll try to counter with. It feels like we constantly are doing something other teams aren't expecting or ready for.

Credit to the plan and then the play calling.

Not to mention how multiple we are now with personnel, formation, and structure. Stating the obvious but It feels very difficult to defend.

Are you first-naming Ryan Day?

I really like the under center looks and the bootlegs and misdirection that comes with that formation. Seems to be really effective and honestly, it was kind of a surprise to me to see that get rolled out in the first game.

Before they further reduced practice time, we heard more than one coach talk about the necessity of paring down what you do to just the number of things you can do well. Ryan Day has this offense doing everything well.

You know, I’ve reserved judgment on this point through the first five games. But it’s hard to debate that any other year there hasn’t been some glaring deficiency that surfaced by this point — on one side of the line or the other.

Any kid looking at the transition from Urban to Day would have to be very interested in coming to play at tOSU. Again, I have reserved judgment thus far, but if things continue at this pace I have to start wondering if we’re going to see any late-cycle flips in recruiting.

Thus far, expectations for the season have been exceeded... well exceeded.

Concerned about the one play (Ran near the goal line twice) where the one Nebraska DE took a shot at Fields. Another player also had the opportunity but laid off hitting him. Anyone else remember those two plays? I know we can't play Justin with kid gloves but that one hit could have caused some damage. Thoughts?

He seems fine to me... but yeah, don’t want to see too many of those.
